Heard of him. Even watched him play for 5 minutes at the end of a match on Univision while waiting for Deportivo Mundial to start. Didn't score, not convinced.

Cometh the hour, cometh the Shola. But it's 35 million. You can't turn that down. Every player has his price, even if it totally destroys the way the team plays...it's SILLY MONEY. Think of all the ways you could spend it. All the permutations of exotic South American strikers, Ligue 1 top scorers, etc. In a way, the speculation is better than the football.

This will be a 400+ page thread debating the value of Latin American names from Football Manager, ending on August 31 in bitter disappointment.

The owner is a compulsive gambler. It will be spent on 3 hands of Texas hold 'em and a trio of Eastern European hookers for Ashley, Llambas and 'Pards. We will sign Robbie Earnshaw in late August on loan, after we fail to meet Nottingham Forest's valuation for a transfer.

I would spend it all on poker and roulette and sign someone shit on loan.

Well at least good sense won out in the end. He couldn't say. The media said so. Bloody selfish of us to hang on to Enrique for so long, we should count ourselves lucky. -

There was a really good player in there somewhere, and I've always thought that the tired old cliches about 'not being suited to the English game etc' are excuses for bad coaching....but when you have one of the best managers in Europe and good players around you, you really have to wonder what else could have done. There are players the club might have let down and players that never met their own potential for other reasons.

The football media overlords have spoken. Enrique is good, and therefore must play for a top 4 club or Spurs as soon as possible.

I wish Keegan had done something similar sooner after his own show down with Ashley. Speaking to the fans, wishing the team well (although I recognize that Hughton has his own agenda, keeping his name out there for his next job).

How is our UEFA coefficient looking these days? Still above Juventus? -

Secure sixth place on the final day, hopefully at Steve Bruce's expense, have a few entertaining games against Eastern European teams nobody has heard of and then get dumped out before the fixture list gets congested and the injuries pile up. -
Degree in mathematics or something wasn't it?

Bet he isn't being boring though.

Sunderland v Newcastle United pre-match thread - Sun 16th Jan at 12!

The FA aren't going to overturn it. Tiote wasn't in the starting XI because a) he wasn't fit enough and we didn't want to risk his health or b) we didn't want to risk a very important player at a very important time in the season on a Cup tie. Nothing about the circumstances of being 2-0 down in a tie against Stevenage should have mitigated those risks. It wouldn't have been worth it even if Tiote had come on and changed the game, which a defensive midfielder probably isn't going to do. And we'll lose league points because of it. Monumentally stupid decision. -
Chris Hughton is a coach, not a manager. He doesn't understand the tactical intricacies and strategy behind a genius move like bringing Tiote on when we are 2-0 down in the second half of a cup tie. It takes a proper tie wearing manager like Pardew to understand it.

Signing someone from West Ham?

What does the point total of the bottom 3 at this point in prior seasons look like? Usually there always seems to be a bottom feeder like the mackems or Derby to drag down the average you need to survive. This year, everyone seems to have a respectable point total. Will that drive up the point total that the 17th place team needs to survive?
