They could really use a player like Conor Gallagher.

Nah, I think it is because he is a saleable asset and we need to make spots in the roster if we are going to sign more players. He’s one of the few expendable players we have that other clubs might want.

Why would any of Chelsea’s rivals help them out and buy a Sterling or Pulisic? Smaller clubs couldn’t afford to pay their contracts. Would be anti competitive behavior (maybe illegal), but the other clubs competing for those CL spots could just refuse to do any deals with Chelsea at all.
