I get the feeling Owen isn't that interested in football anymore. Doesn't seem to have any passion or enthusiasm for the game, probably because all he has ever wanted to do is play for Liverpool and England really. I reckon he realised this at Real Madrid but then when he wasn't wanted back by Lieverpool then he had to settle for us which has resulted in his all round shiteness and losing any passion that he had for football.

His best games were almost always alongside Sibierski. Some of their link up play was excellent at times and Sibierski is pretty limited to say the least, despite being an infinitely better player than Smith. That's very true and I think it had a lot to do with Sibi having a good footballing brain and knowing how to link up with Martins. If Martins plays alongside a clever playmaking striker like Sibi then his game is much, much better. We don't have a striker like that at the moment though.

Fletcher and various youngsters from hibs, McGeady, Brown maybe others from Celtic. Maybe Berra from Hearts and there are various other talented youngsters at Motherwell, Falkirk etc.

eh? They are producing some good players, some quite gifted. Scott Brown would walk into our team! Indeed Scotland is one of the up and coming nations in Europe at the moment in terms of talented young players and that is being shown by teams like Real Madrid and all the premiership teams taking a keen interest in them.

Good point about when kids stop playing after about 15/16, I was one so were most of my friends. We played 11s religiously up until then and when you stop it's very hard to get back to the same level you were at in terms of developing.

I wouldn't hold much hope for the Birmingham game, they are playing very well right now. If we don't beat Fulham and the Mackems then I would imagine we will either go down or survive by maybe a point.

I think so too. It's also worth saying that Martins has not had a settled side to play in since he joined, the closest thing was the Roeder team when he was playing well. I don't think Owen and Martins will work, maybe against some slow defences but not long term.

For me KK gets next season regardless of what happens. It's hardly all his fault we are in this mess, yes his current choice of players is quite strange to most of us but he hardly has any decent players to replace most of them with. I don't know whats going on with Smith but he will surely be out for the next game.

It's more the other results that are killing me right now, as we fucked our goal difference even further. Fulham (though they've got the easiest of the run-ins) are too far adrift imo. Reading were likely to drag themselves out of it once that first win came, which is exactly what we should do but the longer we wait, the harder it gets. Bolton and sunderland are the teams to look at. We need a big Everton win again tomorrow and anything but a Bolton win at the JJB. Yeash Fulham are as good as down for me. Sat 19.04.08 mackems (h) could be the game which determines which division we are in next season.

Looking at the highlights, it is clear to me that the centre of midfield was not doing a good job, no-one was tracking back with Gerrard for the goals. Smith cannot start the next game in midfield or up front. If he does then I will certainly believe the myth that he has to play every game.
