Not worthy of a thread - 2018 FIFA World Cup edition
alpal78 replied to OzzieMandias's topic in Football
I'm with Jonny, let's not pretend for one bit that this is about ending corruption in FIFA, (if that is even possible). If that was BBC's sole intention, there are many things they could have done like showing it earlier or bringing a court case or reporting to he FA after getting solid evidence. Screening it a few days before the vote, despite having only shoddy evidence (at best) reeks of just sensationalism and trying to increase viewers at the expense of the nation. Oh and we should care if England's bid is undermined, the govt spent loads of money (that's yours and mine) for the bid and can only hope to recoup if we win the bid. -
Riduculous really...like to see how UEFA establish the intention behind being carded! The football authorities are really good at meddling in what they are not supposed to and not meddling in areas that they are supposed to (goal line technology)!

I'm not sure why the smiley Dave, if you look at the replay in slowmo, his comment was spot on, he lashed out with his forearm not his elbow.
-
I don't think anyone thinks he is amazing, if there are any, they can probaby be ignored as this must be in the absolute minority. Most that are defending him (myself included) acknowledge that his end product (in terms of goals and assists) is minimal but also recognize that a) we don't have anyone better for his position right now and b) in tersm of value to the team he is well above the likes of Smith and Guthrie and may I add a non goal scoring Nolan.
-
Well said. I'm not concerned with the 'elbow' but I am concerned how he is being out-muscled by physical strikers. I thought we'd seen the end of that.
-
Ya I'm with you, either that or at worst both should be banned. There's mitigation in courts, being provoked with a personal attack right after an embarrassing defeat should have been taken into account.
-
meaning ? Im suggesting it's very easy to sit behind a keyboard and call someone a c***. Would he have the guts to say it to my face? Of course he wouldn't. Can you stop it already...you provoked him with an unnecessary personal attack, he responded foolishly and is now banned...end of story.
-
Had a look at the replay, didn't think it was that bad. Looked like he stuck his arm out (which did make contact) to prevent Elmander from overtaking him instead of a directed elbow. Plus the contact was not smack in the middle of the face, was more at the mouth/lips area (which again to me was prove that it wasn't intentional). Don't know whether I am clutching at straws but that's the way I saw it I wanna add that I don't think that he should get too much flak for the'elbow' but he definitely has to deal better with physical strikers and reduce the fannying around with Enrique around our penalty box...doesn't mean I want him to hoof the ball up, but has to be more careful with passing to a player not under pressure/being closed down.
-
well have you not heard scything down players is apparently the English way of playing and is a way of welcoming these foreign players?
-
Tragic we sold him tbh. Nah utility player at best, would not get into our back line currently
-
I'm all for Xisco to be given another chance, actually he did reasonably well against Villa. Lovenkrads was awful especially with that unmarked header.
-
completely agree with you this time!
-
a substitute to change things around would be nice Hughton, there is no rule that we can only sub after 85th minutes you know!
-
The Satan De Jong not selected again for Netherland's match against Turkey, apparently because he has not shown remorse over his style of play. Bravo Van Marwijk
-
FFS, no need to pay semantics. If it is generally accepted that a certain style or technique of defending is better and more effective, and a player does the opposite, then it is an error.
-
i got the wrong end of the stick turns out i'd been misfinformed, it had been jamie redknapp who was defending de jong, saying it wasn't a bad tackle. had the email a few weeks ago from a mate saying 'redknapp's on sky defending de jong' and i assumed he meant harry *stands corrected* Nope you are right, it was slappy face who defended De Jong over the HBA incident. I read the quotes, I'm sure it is somewhere in the HBA thread, I just can't be bothered to go through them. A part of me wished Cattermole did Modric in because realistically the only way to get managers like Arry to instruct their players to tackle fairly and stop them from asking their players to go out to 'welcome' new players to the Premiership, is when one of their own players suffer the same consequences.

I'm still keeping my yes vote even after yesterday. Minimum of 4 points by next Sunday and I will change my vote, anything less, then the yes stays until we can get some consistency.
-
careful, that's about what Blackburn paid for Shearer! Like all other comparison involving currency and value, have to take inflation into account i.e. what 3.5m back then would be today.
-
more like thanking Glazer for paying off the ref!
-
Exactly, the last bit you highlighted was the part I hated the most. The ref waved away Spurs players presumably so that he can discuss with the linesman properly but then just continued discussing whilst Ferdinand harassing him right in the face. Ridiculous double standards. Don't get me wrong, I hate Spurs especially with slappy face in charge but Man United get so many fucking favours from refs, its fucking unreal!
-
Since we are doing comparisons, Dyer beats defenders through sheer pace but was below average when facing the goalkeeper. He just could not smack the ball. Not sure of HBA's overall speed but he has sudden burst of acceleration, better ball control and somehow this canny ability to wiggle himself through/past defenders.

The sudden change in attitude on TT has an awful lot to do with the key people on there not getting re-elected to the NUST committee imo. I can see how that opinion would be formed but can assure you its not. Firstly, that thread shows many of those who were losing faith stated the fact before I or Tom came into the thread with our views. For myself, as Ive already stated elsewhere, not getting re-elected was not the reason for my views, they were already heading that way a good while before the elections. I had many an argument at committee meetings about things I wasnt happy with, lack of communication and the way in which Internet forums are viewed by the (now) chairman being just two of them. You just need to look at my "manifesto" to see my thoughts. NUSC (not NUST) is something I strongly believe in, when I came on here many times and argued the points I did so because overall I believed in the organisation and I still do. Things such as the £7m per month, I was sucked into and made to believe that there was proof of this from an independent source due out any day. When that programme was aired it turned out to be something totally different, do you think I took pride in being made to look a fool? As for YWC, we had a small group who were dealing with it day to day and believe it or not, they gave very little information to the rest of the committee (something thats still happening today and needs to be stopped). The rest of us however needed to back this, it looked fantastic from the basic info that was given out. If I and the rest of the committee hadnt backed it and promoted it as we did then it would have been doomed to failure without even a chance. Id like to think however that all promotion we did was informing rather than selling. I always (wrongly) believed that more info was just around the corner and by keeping people involved it stood a better chance when the full info was released. Newcastle United needs a supporters club, thats something I strongly believe, thats what we set out to build, yes it came at a time when all that was talked about was protest but the basis of a good supporters club should be working for whatever is best for the fans. Away trips, fan days, stuff to keep the younger generations interested in the football club rather than have them go to "successful clubs". It hurts to see what is happening now to the organisation I was proud to be part of, no consultation with the members, no meetings since it became a Trust (when Supporters Direct recommend 3 or 4 per year), the belief that those who post on places such as this are not representative of NUFC fans. All of that is wrong and needs to be changed. Can nothing be done about that? Why would anyone want to do anything about NUST...let it die its natural death.
