  1. There's something that doesn't quite add up here......
  2. Having two left wingers on the bench seems a little excessive.
  3. Although it was infuriating, Wayne Rooney's volley against us at Old Trafford was a little bit special as well.
  4. James is quite a good shout. Adebayor has tailed off badly though, would much rather have seen Lescott in there.
  5. I agree, but I'd prefer it if there was a rule whereby being nominated for player of the year precluded you from being nominated for young player of the year. It would make it more interesting and force the nominators to be more imaginative.
  6. Obviously Ronaldo's a shoe in, but with nominations out in 10 minutes according to SSN, who would you go for for the other 5 candidates? Ronaldo, Fabregas, Torres, Ferdinand, Lescott, Bentley for me. Will be surprised if Gerrard isn't on the list mind.
  7. Gerrard's FA Cup final goal against West Ham was unbelievable. He could barely walk, they were 3-2 down in injury time and out of nowhere he hammered in the perfect shot from about 35 yards out.
  8. I think Robert's two rather special moments against Spurs deserve a mention.
  9. Albert is a good shout. I wouldn't agree with the Bellamy goal though. It was crucial and exciting and important, massively so, and I celebrated it like no other goal, but it was hardly a moment of beautiful football that took me by surprise.
  10. What's really taken your breath away in football? Something so out of the blue, so brilliant, and so outrageous you just couldn't believe it? It doesn't even have to be a goal, it just has to have that certain je ne sais quoi, an element of surprise. The first two that spring to mind for me are both Brazilian moments of genius. The first I didn't see live, Pele's dummy round the keeper was, even though it didn't result in a goal, one of the best pieces of play I've ever seen. Even when I watched it the second, third and fourth time I expected him to touch the ball The other one I can think of instantly is Ronaldinho's goal against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in 2005. The way he conjured something out of completely nothing with such sheer audacity was remarkable.
  11. We'd better ring the USA and tell them Communism has failed.
  12. To be honest, as much as I hate pens in games involving us, I fucking love watching shoot outs between other teams. It was magic when Spurs and Everton were involved in shoot outs at the same time and we were flicking between the channels trying to see every effort. Especially magic when JJ missed.
  13. I disagree with that bolded part massively. I think Owen, whilst not a brilliant player, is good enough to adapt to playing well in a number of formations. He has only very recently started playing in 'our' 443 which, as far as I can tell, is a formation he's never played in before. He's adapted to it in 4 games, and has played very well. Why couldn't he play well in another formation? Given that the rest of you post seems to be based on the premise of the first sentance I find it hard to agree with much of it, except what he is paid - which almost isn't relevant imo. The benefits of getting Owen on a long term contract (persuading others to re-sign, encouraging new signings with a big name, etc.) pretty much counteract the fact he'll be earning more than he's worth afaic.
  14. What if I were to exclude ex-NUFC players?
  15. Also, how many midfielders do we have capable of this? More important position imo, and we lack even more there.
  16. Here here Nor did we when we came top 4.

After reading this post, I can say....it is irrelevant
  18. I'd be surprised if he hasn't seen it. Every other fucker in the world has. At least three times.
  19. One who hasn't been mentioned so far who I really enjoy watching is Michael Essien. He's a hell of a player, gets up and down the pitch fantastically well, very rarely gives the ball away and has a real drive and urgency about him which combines with his work ethic to make him very special. I'd have him up there as one of, if not the best central midfielder in the premiership, and he seems to be somewhat in the minority of midfielders around at the moment who can do everything, and is truly versitile. Massively underrated player who never seems to get the real top plaudits, but is key to Chelsea's success imo. If we could take any player in the league he'd be right up near the top of my list.
  20. I thought they'd been quite unlucky personally. They invested heavily in pace and attacking flair, but Dyer and Faubert have barely played two games between them this summer whilst Bellamy and Ljungberg have spent most of the season on the injury table. Granted, if you buy injury prone players you expect a few knocks, but it seems excessive what's happened to them this year. Quite an exciting team they could put out if all of Ashton, Bellamy, Faubert, Dyer, Ljungberg, Solano and Noble were fit.
  21. How many of our other egotistical players come out in the paper complaining about how much they're paid and getting daddy to back them up? You can see why it might grate....
