I don't think that his individual displays (when looked at like above) have been that great this season, but the defence always looks much, much better when he's there. I guess that means he's the organiser or whatever, takes some pressure off the rest.

I expected us to be challenging for the promotion spots and playing lots of close hard fought games that were devoid of quality. No wonder i'm happy. I've really enjoyed this season so far, it's nice watching a game deviod of quality sometimes. If the games weren't devoid of quality last season we were invariably getting hammered.

I'm using his full stint at Newcastle as the basis for my opinion of his footballing ability. He runs. That's it. He can't do anything else a player in his position should be able to. Barely even ran last night. Didn't think he looked interested.

I find it interesting how high the marks for individuals are in this thread. Had Harper not made that great save in injury time I find it hard to believe many would have got above a 5. We were very poor bar about 10 minutes before the goal and the odd flash of inspiration, cracking result and a good bit of resiliance in the end though.

It's a weird feeling to be higher up the league that I might have expected and yet playing considerably worse football than I expected. I'm enjoying this season though.

I think everyone expected this league to be easier than it has been, even if they didn't admit it to themselves. If not then no-one would be disappointed at all with what's happened so far as we're top of the league without hitting our best. I happen to agree that a lot of our players have been found out as being severely limited.

At first it looked a bad miss but when you look at the replay even Bergkamp would have had difficulty tucking that away, it was a very tough chance. Very unlucky with his header too, great power and almost perfect direction from quite far out.

His performances at Euro 2004 as an 18yr old were some of the most exciting I've seen.

Don't be fooled, he got a few goals last season but he isn't a top 4 player. Funny how a midfielder can score a few then becomes a great player, like Nolan a few years back. Or Lampard.
