Will they though? A cup final or even a cup win would be lovely, but is that more important than survival? They've only ever been in one major cup final and that was the League Cup, which isn't really that prestigious and they didn't even win that final either. This is their chance for the first proper piece of silverware in their history. If Newcastle had no major trophies would you take one now if it mean't going down? You could always come straight back up.
-
It's never happening. This is the only chance of winning something meaningful for Wigan, their players and possibly Martinez. I wouldn't be surprised if the lot would take winning that cup over staying in the league.
-
Wigan will surely be resting key players against Swansea too with the final a few days later? There's no way they can go full strength three times in the space of a week?
-
Hopefully he just goes mental now and they implode.
-
If that happens even a win against QPR probably won't even be enough. You just know Wigan are winning that Villa game. The writing is on the wall for their final two games, defeat at Arsenal and 3 points against Villa. It's all about WBA and Swansea in the next 7 days and a bit.
-
WBA might be as well given that they're pretty much finishing 8th.
-
I think Arsenal will still be fighting for the top 4 when Wigan go there, I just can't see them getting anything there.
-
Wigan would need to win 3 of their last 4 to send us down on 40 points.
-
Maybe Ashley and co will push the button now that we're down to 17th.

Now we're 18th. Edit: 17th.

I think the story will be told in the next 8 days. Tonight, this weekend and Wigan vs Swansea on Tuesday next week. If Wigan lose both or come away with just 1 point, they're down imo. They could also win twice while we lose and we're pretty much down. The worse thing is the waiting, I can't wait for our next game at this stage.
-
Need another. Yeah just seen that. We had a 10 goal swing on them before this weekend and now we're both -23, fuck.
-
Sunderland and Villa are still in it, we're level on points with them. The mackems are without key players for the run in and anything can happen after this hammering with that nutcase PDC in charge.
-
Look at Villa hammering them man. If we had of beaten Sunderland we'd be pretty much safe and they'd be up shit creek 2 points ahead of Wigan. This just makes the derby defeat a million times worse.

It's the day before mine. It could be the best or worst birthday for quite some time.
-
I'm up to a 9 now. Our disgusting form and the fact that we're level on with 18th really doesn't look good. If we lose this weekend and Wigan win, they could be a point a head of us before we even play QPR.
-
If Wigan win this weekend and we lose I think we're pretty much down, that's how bad this shit is now.
-
Sunderland have been dragged back in to it, also Wigan's game against Villa now looks to be more difficult. I'm clutching at straws here, we're gannin doon man.
-
So he's just be sat in SJP for forty years?
-
If Carver or someone took over for the rest of the season they'd probably be given the job full time.
-
On his day he can destroy teams like West Ham and QPR more or less on his own. He has to start now. I said it in another thread about the fans calling for him in recent games, especially against Liverpool when he turned and applauded them, you just know he's the type of player who'd be desperate to repay the fans. I think he'll be up for the next three games more than most and given his quality he could be unstoppable.
-
We've just got to hope the players realise only one win is needed and they go out and batter one of West Ham or QPR, because they're certainly capable. Ben Arfa has to start both games too because you just know the lad wants to go out there and do the right thing, especially with the fans calling for him in recent games.

The thing is, West Ham have the fire in their belly that this squad is missing right now. Big Sam will most definitely want a big win against us too so they'll be right up for it, playing out of their skin probably. Our team just looks gutless at the moment, their confidence will be rock bottom now after Saturday. Plus there is always Pardew, who will be clueless if we go a goal down and completely clueless if we go a goal up. Best case scenario is it's 0-0 until very late on and we get a winner with no time left for Pardew to make a mess of it.
