The Magedia Thread - Sunderland suck trollolololol
Geordie Boot Boy replied to Rocker's topic in Football
I couldn't even finish this one from Joe Lovejoy, so apologies if he ends redeems the article by the end: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/premier_league/newcastle/article3177770.ece -
Shearer is now the only man for the job IMO. If it all goes wrong, at least it's out of everyone's systems.
-
I can't believe people are still expecting bunnies to be pulled out of hats. The first choice was Redknapp. The second choice is either unproven or a lesser manager. In other words, the best we can hope for is Shearer.
-
I've never rated him and was against his signing but TBF it's the fault of those continually playing him. At the moment, there's not really a figure to blame for that so lets just hope the next manager has the same view as we pretty much all do.
-
I laughed when Birmingham tried to get Lippi, literally laughed. Well, our biggest aspiration was to get Harry fucking Redknapp, and we couldn't even get him. I really thought our laughing stock days were going to be a thing of the past when Shepherd left, clearly not.
-
I don't rate Jol at all and it's interesting to see that the two Spurs lads have both expressed negative opinions of him too.
-
I wonder if he had a few quid on it if that's the case. A lot of people were convinced that both he and the chairman made a lot of money out of his move to Southampton. As you said in an earlier post, big money was on him quite early on.
-
I'd disagree with that. Getting the right players is important but that weighting is far too overstated. Think about great managers at smaller clubs, e.g. Alex Ferguson at Aberdeen. Without knowing too much about the situation, I doubt he had a team that were the envy of their peers, it was probably mostly down to tactics, motivation and effective training techniques.

Redknapp

Feeling a bit 'Jo'. Jo Guest, f****** depressed. If I was feeling Jo Guest, it's unlikely I'd be depressed! Would it 'blow your socks off'? I wouldn't like to speculate on what would be blown off.

Much as I'm underwhelmed I really can't understand that attitude. Get behind him I say. I agree. Support the club and give the man a fair chance I say.

'The Shearer era'. I like it.

I think the next manager will be Shearer. I hope to God it won't be Jol. I was never convinced by him and I don't think he'd do a good job here.

I'm quite surprised. I thought that Hughes would be a more popular choice than this. I said in another thread that the next manager must be given time. We have proven that we have no patience and the board has shown that it either doesn't either or it's too weak to persevere with a manager going through a rough time. The only people who would get this time are Shearer, Keegan and genuinely proven managers (Mourinho, Lippi) universally considered top class by the fans. We aren't going to get a manager of the latter type, I don't think Keegan will return to football and Shearer doesn't seem to want to do it just yet, so I predict we'll be right back here in roughly a year. Personally, I think Houllier would do a good long term job. He wouldn't get the time though so I don't think he'd last long enough to do it.
-
I'd sooner have Shearer than Redknapp TBH. For me, what is important is that the next manager gets the time to do the job. It's shocking that Allardyce has been sacked so soon IMO and only goes to show that the new regime is no more patient and strong willed than the last one. With this in mind, either a World class manager who the fans believe in must be employed or Alan Shearer hero to all must be given the job. Anything else and we'll be right back where we are now in another 13 months.

OK granted you can't refer to that which you did not experience. Put another way, think about the eighty odd football league teams (and their fans) who would love to have what NUFC has. Or even another way, think about our closest rivals in the "city" ten miles down the road. Do we still have a lot to complain and moan about ? There is no doubt that they would all love to be where we are right now. But that suggests we should rest on our laurels, happy to simply be in the top division every year. Happy to be above loads of other teams. Where I personally (and I'm sure many others) get so disillusioned is when I think about where we could be, with this stadium, these facilities, this ridiculously loyal fanbase etc etc. And before anyone points it out, I know the previous board helped us to get to that status. It's a terrible cliché, but we're the classic example of a small penis. A 'could do better'. I don't see the issue with wanting the best. Of course there are loads of knee-jerking mongs (on the forums and at SJP), but who takes notice of them? I certainly don't. On a side-note, that's what wor lass calls me chopper.

Another "Owen: is he past it?" thread.. but with a poll
Geordie Boot Boy replied to McCormick's topic in Football
I don't think he's 'past it' necessarily. I just don't think his heart's in it to play for Newcastle United. [i was going to add 'anymore' but thought better of it] From my own experience of playing football*, I know that if your heart's not in playing, you usually look about half as good as you actually are. * Cue the posts ridiculing me for drawing comparisons between my experiences of amateur football and those of a Premiership footballer. -
That's a beauty, didn't see it at the time. Agreed, good post.

Scott Parker's limitations were obvious to me very early on and he never had the problem of being used badly out of position in the way Smith has been. Don't you think though that all "box-to-box" type midfield players are limited though? I mean, unless you're talking about someone like Steven Gerrard who plays well going forward and does his share defensively, you just end up with someone running about being generally useless. They're generallly jacks of all trades but masters of none. Specialist midfielders are where it's at IMO.
-
Exactly the kind of thing that made me not want to sign him. He's a prick, whether guilty or not.

Should Sam Allardyce get the Sack? (Main Page Poll)
Geordie Boot Boy replied to madras's topic in Football
He's a good manager going through a rough time at the moment. I think that we'll be better off sticking with him through it than sacking him and chasing short term 'success'. And I think that the chairman will probably agree with that. -
Woman claims rape at Manchester United party
Geordie Boot Boy replied to Geordie Boot Boy's topic in Football
"Hmm, might be best not to put up any libellous allegations on the forum, thanks" That's "what's known as a request" is it? I have no problem with being reminded about avoiding libel, only with the sarcastic condescending tone, especially one that implies there has already been some kind of libel. Given that only I had posted, I took it as aimed at me. No need for it. (my knickers are officially in a twist) -

Did someone attempt to put some "libellous allegations on the forum, thanks"?
