I suppose they'd say those signings were before Ashworth and that's precisely why he's been brought in. Time will tell but I'm not sure he pulled up any trees with his signings while he was here.

Think the time to sell was January personally, not sure the sort of fee we'd get now would be worth more than what he'd give us on the pitch.

I was hearing £4.5m a couple of days ago on one of the podcasts but if it was £1m then obviously that's nominal.

Not sure what the reason is, but the midfield looked disjointed last week even with 11 men, and it was a similar story for large parts of last season as well. I'd like to think it's because Tonali was missing, but truthfully we had the same problems when he was playing.

We would have got him in but once we had to take the Forest keeper as part of the Anderson deal that put it on the backburner.

I always look at the money because I know it will come back to bite us in the arse further down the line. Hence why I was for selling Trippier in January for £12-13m when most thought we should be looking for £20m+. But I'm ok with spending a bit more on Guehi if it means we don't sign Gomez for £40m. The extra few million on a player under 25 is always better value long term provided we are convinced he is the player we want.

I thought it was said there's a €95-100m release clause. Why does anyone think it will cost £50m?

They want £45m and he's 27 as opposed to £65m for a 24 yr old Guehi.

If it enables Liverpool to sign Guehi instead of us then it puts us a step back in catching up to them. We'd be far better off just giving Palace the asking fee, at least that way we would be buying best in class, assuming that is how we view him. That said, I'm not sure he even wants to come here. I think this might turn out to be another Tosin move where "bigger clubs" are using us to set the price before moving in for a bit lesser fee.

Think that's definitely the case for the Guehi transfer, probably quite a few moves hingeing on that one.

I would just write that game off tbh, we came out of it with 3 points after playing with 10 men for most of the game. We'll get a far better idea of how we are setting up over the next month or so.

Yeah that was back at the end of June. Now we are supposedly looking at him as an alternative to Guehi two months later. Although I refuse to believe there is any truth in it.

Then by all means keep bumping the thread, I'm sure every last one of us will enjoy revelling in the filthy lucre we sponged from this deal.

Tbf, we have no idea where these links to Joe Gomez are coming from, but I'd be asking serious questions of our recruitment team if he ended up here. Palace might be trying to pull our eyes out for Guehi but I'd take that any day of the week over buying Liverpool's leftovers and giving them the money to buy Guehi instead.

They already tried to dump Joe Gomez on us as part of the deal to take Gordon. It already crossed my mind when the Gomez link resurfaced yesterday that Liverpool would love for us to spend £45m on him then use the money to buy Guehi. Selling Quansah was already knocked on the head by them in June.

The price has just gone up another £5m.
