I think there's going to be some butting of heads there, simply because Eddie has very strong opinions on who is good enough for his team, and Mitchell is presumably very good at bringing in players before they reach peak value. Let's write this window off as Mitchell's settling in period, but we can't afford another one like this. Either they get on the same page or someone will be leaving by the end of the season unless we finish in a European place. I don't think it will be Mitchell.
-
Krafth is a RB by trade, or at least that was where we were playing him when Steve Bruce brought him in.
-
He's not wrong on why Mitchell's been brought in though, his speciality is bringing in players with big potential, and he will need to do that in future windows if we can't afford to spend big on the finished article.

Should ban mobile phones from people aged over 10 in my opinion, the world would be a better place.
-
Looking at our back four for this one, I think I'd take a draw.
-
No one ready to pay £15m for Miggy then? Blow me down with a feather then.
-
Same shit as in being blindsided by the other party, whether the player/agent or the club.
-
Get the confetti guns ready.
-
Thought this for some time, especially as negotiations kept dragging.
-
We went through the same shit with Ekiteke only with different people leading the negotiations then. Quite surprising how easy we are to lead up the garden path.
-
It doesn't look too good when you are relying on Steve Bruce signings to play centre half when they were bought ostensibly to play full back.
-
Like what type of shit stirring questions for example?

Again - all that means is he would be open to the move. It also seems he is quite happy not to move and sit his contract out and go wherever he likes when the time comes. Nothing wrong with any of that btw, just means we should have had other options ready to go anticipating just such an outcome.

FWIW I am happy to go along with the club's valuation of Guehi if they think he's worth investing £65m. My concern is that a club like Liverpool might think they can get him for less because (for some reason) they think he might also be quite happy to go there when they can force Palace's hand with his contract running down.
-
Was going to say that as well but couldn't be bothered into getting into a debate about semantics.
-
Palace gave him the captain's armband because presumably they knew he was also quite happy to stay put.
-
Because they'd be far happier paying £40m than £70m I expect.
-
Honestly if that's true, I think the deal will get done even now. It's no more than hearsay, but let's take it at face value: maybe he would quite fancy joining, but he's also clearly not THAT fussed on it as Parish seems confident that he's also quite happy to toodle along at Palace if we don't agree a ridiculously expensive deal.
-
Not really. I've already said that all we've heard is that "he's open to the move". That could mean anything. He's also publicly said he's looking forward to the season ahead with Palace. He's got 2 years left on his deal and he could quite easily wait a year and move to Liverpool for £40m, maybe he's open to that as well.

Howe himself seems to be pretty pissed at not having got at least a new CB in. Looks like he's giving interviews through gritted teeth in the last couple of weeks.
-
Good points, just want to add to that, I know Mitchell has only been in the job for barely two months, but we had all summer to identify players. I really find it hard to believe we couldn't identify a RCB who could come in and do a job other than Guehi for £70m. We did buy Lloyd Kelly, maybe he should be starting sooner rather than later. I don't want to watch too many games with Burn and Krafth as our CB pairing.
-
Maybe Mitchell is sitting by the tv screens hoping to see a Parish interview on Sky saying it's still doable if we up our bid just a teensy bit?
-
All clubs are now refusing to put big money into players who are over 25. Ashley was derided for it, but in the FFP era it just doesn't make sense any more, that is why the market has deflated so much and everyone is after the same players who fall into the right age bracket.
-
Seems like a dumb approach to have put so much stock into landing Guehi. Where were the alternatives just in case we couldn't make it happen?
