He could have been free to go anywhere he liked this summer but signed an extension last year instead. Probably knew he'd get nowhere near £40-50k elsewhere. So neither of us know the actual circumstances there. But I think it seems pretty obvious that he was told if he wants to go out on loan (in order to play for a non-shit club) then he'd have to sign an extension so we could get some money for him this summer. Either way it doesn't justify this shit, we wanted to extend his contract, he extended it. I doubt he was told he'd be rotting in the reserves.

Would make no sense giving him to rivals. But he's been treated poorly so idgaf. We're fucked anyway.

Maybe he wants to be challenged into making the first team rather than just walk into it? He rejected a move to Chelsea where he clearly would've been used sparsely and/or out-of-position no matter what. I'm assuming Liverpool have given him assurances he'll be vying for a CM position. I think we have concerns over his fitness. Or at least his faith in his own fitness. I could be behind Gayle leaving if it actually meant we did something positive signing wise. But it won't happen. Not that this transfer will happen either. Just a convenient story to smokescreen people as per usual. He'll be like a new signing once the window closes and we've valiantly fought off the advances of the sovereign state of Fulham.

He doesn't take risks because he's not fast enough/good enough to take people on. He's technically solid so is still a worthwhile weapon, but the fact he's a nailed on starter for us is far from ideal.

Aye I think he's the worst thing since unsliced bread, but he's not stopping that. It's point blank and bent into the far corner, he's got nee chance.
