Sums it up for me. It's not even a lack of application I don't think - it seems to be a complete lack of confidence. He's finally getting his run of games in the starting line up so he should in theory be increasing in confidence (compared to the last couple of seasons anyway). He got injured at the wrong time really.

Fair thing to say really. I'd like to see him play on the wing with the role you described there. Doing so will probably get his confidence up which in turn could help him excell in the number 10 role.
