I'd agree with that. Well, a few changes, maybe I'd play HBA on the right, Yanga at CB, Perez would get a place in the team and Gouffran wouldn't be on there. I'd probably play Cabella too, and maybe put sissoko in the middle...not too many changes though.

I think with most of our European imports, especially in midfield, the game is so different in terms of possession and pressing that when they come here (notoriously difficult to come to the Premiership anyway) and into specifically this team (Pardew's tactical black hole) they just don't know their role any more. They use their attributes how they used to, but their team mates are lumping it over their heads or down the line, and they go missing. Their pressing game goes out the window because we don't do it as a team. When we buy players from league leaders like Ajax, their players are used to lots of possession, passing styles and winning games. Coming here to a very competitive league, to a team where we don't have an emphasis on maintaining possession or even dominating games, must be hard anyway.

I don't think Sissoko is naturally a particularly attacking player. He drives with the ball with pace and power, then he lays it off to someone to put the ball in or to beat a man. In that job, he would excel. Unfortunately, he's our sole creative outlet currently as he's the only one who has the bollocks to try and do something occasionally, even though it's not his natural game. You can see he's not used to beating his man, but at least he fucking tries. Gouffran hasn't tried to beat a man in months. Sammy tried last night and it showed, even though he was poor.

Tactically, it's quite important. Cabaye was our main creative force, we don't have him any more. We used money from his sale to buy a set of players who should be considered his 'replacements'. To improve our team, this/these player(s) have to be better than Cabaye, to stay the same they have to be of equal quality, and to regress, they can be whoever the fuck you can get. I reckon we've gone for the latter option, hoping that their collective efforts might match his.
