Woodgate & Albert, that would probably go down as our classiest centre of defence.
-
Probably, Given is better than Pav and Hislop was back then, I think he might have made a difference in some of the crucial games. Turning the Man U game at home into anything other than a defeat and we would have won the league.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/sport/football.html?in_article_id=425023&in_page_id=1779&ct=5 Jonathan Woodgate's imperious form has caught the attention of Newcastle bosses, who could now move for their former defender. Middlesbrough manager Gareth Southgate has admitted he fears his club may struggle to hold on to the Real Madrid defender. Woodgate has signed a season long loan at the Riverside which is likely to prevent any move from their injury-ravaged neighbours in January. But despite there being a provisional four-year permanent deal to take Woodgate to his hometown club, doubts remain about his long-term future. Fabio Capello has refused to rule out the possibility of Woodgate returning to the Bernabeu, and that remains the player’s first choice. Woodgate started just 12 games in his two seasons in the Spanish capital. Despite learning the language and adapting to the culture, the 26-year-old was unable to justify why £13.4m Real had been spent on him. But a new training regime has worked wonders and Woodgate has hardly missed a game or put a foot wrong since his return to English football. He has spoken repeatedly of his desire to return to Real and that threat hangs over Middlesbrough’s efforts to retain the player on a permanent basis. But Newcastle, who had first option on Woodgate in the summer, are now monitoring the situation. They felt his injury record could not justify a further gamble at that time, but the form that will surely gain an international recall from Steve McClaren next year and the amount of games he has played, has caught their eye. The Newcastle hierarchy has retained a strong relationship with Woodgate and is ready to fight their north-east neighbours should Madrid resist the temptation to take him back. That would create a predicament for Woodgate, who recently has expressed his desire to be playing in the Champions League. Southgate said: "I don't know what Real's position will be at the end of the season. Jonathan wanted to come here in order to get a season's football under his belt but we can't hide the fact that we would like him to stay into the future. "If we are to do that, we have to show him that our ambitions match his. I know that he enjoys his football at Middlesbrough and, as well as he is playing, we know there is more to come from him. So I would love to think that his future in football lies at Middlesbrough. "There is no doubt in my mind Woodgate's ability as a defender is as good as anyone's in the country. He is having the run of games that everybody has been waiting for him to have." Newcastle could do with Woodgate now, given that their defence has been decimated by injury. For the visit of Everton on Saturday they will be without Celestine Babayaro (hamstring), Titus Bramble (calf), Stephen Carr (knee), Craig Moore, Nolberto Solano (both groin) and Steve Harper (hernia). Shay Given is still struggling with a groin problem and Tim Krul is only just recovering from knee surgery. Glenn Roeder could again have to turn to the rookie back four he used at Bolton, with David Edgar, Peter Ramage, Steven Taylor and Paul Huntington having an average age of just over 20. Roeder said: "The back four was a back four of babies and I mean that in the kindest way, in that it was a very inexperienced back four but all of them did their very best." Kieron Dyer meanwhile will play through the gruelling Christmas period, despite not being 100 per cent fit. "It is still like a pre-season for me," he said. "To be honest, after 70 minutes against Tottenham, I had nothing left in the tank. "I held my hand up and told the manager, and he and the medical staff took it out of my hands and decided the maximum I would play against Bolton was 55 minutes. "But, if I can get through this Christmas period, then I should be 100 per cent fit and able to go all guns blazing from there."

I don't see any point in testimonials for Premiership players, I'm sure Given knows what the fans think of him. Rob Lee was just as loyal, possibly more so considering what he had to put up with during the reign of Gullit yet the few who turned up made it embarrassing.
-
If it's no different to a long service medal then give them one instead. I'm sure Given will survive earning more than the average annual wage every week for his 10 years service.

I knew it, it's Keegan.

I couldn't see anything in the post by BooBoo to bring that one on. bluebiggrin.gif

I'm sure the answer is that he's not. bluebiggrin.gif

It's a pity the bloke who wrote the article is still writing, I've been going through some of his other articles and seeing how often he changes his mind about the same subject. bluebiggrin.gif

I thought we went in with a lower bid only to have it turned down before making a bid that was accepted.

The bit in bold is about the only thing in that post that makes sense if you're referring to your own post. bluelaugh.gif bluelaugh.gif bluelaugh.gif You've lost it, where did any of that come from? If you're drinking then maybe you should slow down. bluelaugh.gif bluelaugh.gif bluelaugh.gif

Where in those two lines did I say I knew how long clubs scouted players? The important word you missed was "publicly," the person who complains about getting his posts clipped can't even quote a couple of lines correctly. bluebiggrin.gif Beardsley was, and I'll quote what I said, "well known enough for Man U to be interested in him." The rest, that's just what you've expanded it to so far, you exaggerate it more each time you use it. blueyes.gif

I've never known any club publicly scout an international player for 4 months, have you? As for your hypocrisy/double standards, no commented needed, admission accepted.
-
We've never conducted transfer business in public, those comments between " & " mean nothing. bluebiggrin.gif To be fair to Roeder, he did keep the Rossi, Sibierski and Bernard transfers under wraps until they had signed.

That's the one. bluebiggrin.gif

Olly's Back In Toon, 1st February 2007 Oliver Bernard sensationally rejoined Newcastle United late last night, just weeks after having his contract torn up due to fitness problems. Glenn Roeder is supposed to have made the u-turn on the Frenchman's future after discovering Wayne Bridge, who he'd been watching throughout the window, had already signed a new contract at Chelsea several months previously. Roeder stated: "We're delighted to have acquired the services of Bernard for the remainder of the season. He's a player of real quality and someone that will help propel us up the Premiership table" Bernard was unable to make a first team appearance during his last spell at the club, yet Glenn is confident he'll return to action in no time. Roeder said: "Unfortunately he's been wasting away since leaving the club and we'll have to fatten him up before he's ready to make an impact, but i'm optimistic he'll be in the squad to face Liverpool on the 10th" Link?
-
And how was he obviously foreign when I first had a go? When I originally commented it was supposed to be sarcasm at him asking for an insult where he had made a spelling mistake, it wasn't meant to be taken seriously, I can't see the problem, some people need to get a life.

A persons name doesn't translate as far as I'm aware, it's the same everywhere.
