I see a top 8 place achievable if we get a quality forward in ,the club say top ten so to lower expectations .The premiership was s*** last season in my eyes with a few teams having awful runs and still finishing above us i.e Liverpool ,Sunderland,Everton ,Villa and these are the teams we need to push for progress to be made. fair point this, i wonder if the fuckwit twins think the league is always gonna be this bad? hopefully not with ashley's gambling streak... I don't think it's that fair a point as mid table teams have up and down seasons, whether it's good and bad runs of form over long periods or up and down form like ours over short periods, that's why they're mid table. If you look back through the history of the Premier league over the past 10 years clubs that finish 10th have a points range from 46pts to 52pts, with the higher end usually being balanced by an awful team that picks up very little which we didn't have this year. We were laughing at the teams ive mentioned and they all finished above us ,yes it was our first season back and we try to establish now ,but can you honestly say Manure ,Chelski ,Arsenal had good seasons football wise with quality etc. We were laughing at them because as you said they went on bad runs, yet they also went on good runs too which is why they finished above us. While these clubs may not have poor runs like they did last season it will balance itself out with other clubs not picking up as many points, the same way that if our home form improves next season then other clubs will feel the knock on effect points wise. I think there's a group of clubs between 8th and 14th that are all on par with each other and it's down to us to move on from that, losing Nolan and gaining Ba, Cabaye and Marveaux represents a big improvement for us in my opinion as well as more to come by the looks of it. How many of those clubs around us have improved drastically? Not many if any I don't think. I do find it contradicting that you think the league will be harder yet expect us to make the top 10 and anything else will be a failure. When did i say it was going to be harder next season ? and where did i contradict myself ? Failure will be us not moving up the table from last season as its called progress and not going backwards ,we have bought players to improve us in theory and see us pushing on ,imho we will not move on as we stand unless we get a quality forward but Ashley and Co expect a top ten finish and that is what we are aiming for .

Anything less than 10th is a huge failure imho and at this moment in time we will do well to match where we finished last season unless we get a top draw forward .

Why wait for season 2012/13 to be ready for the Europa cup ,imho you qualify and make the signings in the summer to go for it and push on and European football is a good carrot to dangle then what we have to offer now,as Dave says we were 8 points short last season so its achievable .Bollocks to say we are not ready .
-
Pretty shambolic on the Striker front ,they have had months to find a replacement for Carroll and now we are running out of options with no targets if thats what we are led to believe ,pay stucture for a proven quality forward would have to be broken imho as they are specialist .

“From what he says about the way the team will play I think I can ignite the supporters. “The club wants to do very big things and achieve success, which is why I came here. Im a sentimentalist and imho just leave it vacant till we have someone to deserve it ,there are not many traditional things left at our club and i think we should let its iconic status stay around .

From todays Independant Joey Barton yesterday ridiculed suggestions that Scott Parker was a better player than him. Barton was writing on Twitter and defending his recent claim that he was the best English midfielder. The Newcastle United player had told French magazine So Foot in April that he was the best of his compatriots. Yesterday a Twitter user suggested that Parker and Jack Wilshere were better than Barton, and while Barton admitted the class of Arsenal's 19-year-old, he dismissed claims that Parker was his superior. "Wilshere is class and is goin [sic] to be an infinitely better player than me, no doubt about it," Barton conceded, "but Parker come on." Despite West Ham's relegation, Parker was lauded for his performances last season, leading the Football Writers' Association to make him their player of the season and Fabio Capello to select him in three England internationals this year. Barton, though, insisted that he was better, pointing to the fact that Parker's club finished bottom of the Premier League. "He's not in my league", Barton wrote, "...FACT he s [sic] actually in the championship." Barton also pointed to the games between Newcastle and West Ham last season: "Did I not dismantle him twice, think it was 2-1 at their place, 5-0 at ours!! And they were easily relegated #justsaying." When asked to explain his absence from the England squad, Barton explained that "we all know that's political and not professional". Barton's comments were not wholly negative, though. He praised Spurs' Luka Modric and Arsenal's Samir Nasri as the two best players in England last season. "Modric and Nasri were the best two players I played against in the league," he wrote. "I put Modric out in front as the best by quite some distance... miles ahead of me in my opinion." Just digging a deeper hole tbh and opening himself up for the snipers ,admire his honesty but Joey keep it shut for a bit

Like the 'no capital outlay this summer' quotes before we went out and signed Tiote and Ben Arfa? Surely that should tell you not to jump to conclusions from quotes and statements. Oh, I don't need to go back until the summer to find some quotes that have later been proved to be misleading, and I'm sure neither would you if you tried real hard to remember what happened in January.. Fact is there is no reason for these quotes or the one you just mentioned from last year other than to gradually lower our expectations. We spend what, 3 or 4 million last summer, on our return to the Premier League after being relegated the year before? Whoopifuckingdoo.. At the same time there's no need to say that they're trying to shift on dead wood to free up space for new players (if that is the case) if the only benefit of it is to stop people from spending all of their time on messageboards over analysing every comment to death. To be honest, I sometimes think the people at the club should communicate more and better with the fans, but if all they can come out with is bollocks like this from Pardew it makes me wonder if we're all not better off if they just shut up and implemented their great "five year plan" in silence... (When are we supposed to be "challenging for everything" again Derek?) We won't be challenging for anything major with the huge spenders about, we simply can't compete with them. I've accepted it, perhaps you should too. Try telling that to Birmingham

As others have said, to only bring in one or two more players will mean we will have a very thin squad again next season. As things stand, we are one injury away from huge problems in quite a big number of positions, and that is before taking into account possible outgoings such as Enrique, Barton, but also squad players such as Routledge, Best, Ranger, Guthrie and the likes... Who will play right back if Simpson gets injured? Who will we have to fall back on if Coloccini gets injured? Firstly Taylor and Williamson don't look at all complimentary as players, and what do we have behind these three options? One injury to one of our CB's (especially Colo) and we are in a spot of bother.. Who will replace Enrique effectively if he leaves or gets injured? We have not had decent cover at left back for years.. An injury, and one of our strongest position instantly becomes a glaring weakness on the team sheet Who have we got to take over Tiote's role if he gets injured, or even during the African Cup of Nations..? We look slightly more balanced numerically in midfield and attack, even though we could do with a real injection of quality up front. On paper, we have a decent first team, but there are too many positions where we are royally f***ed if our first (and sometimes only) choice player gets injured for any amount of time, or gets sold off because we receive an offer "we could not refuse" on transfer deadline day. Just one or two additions will not give us the required squad depth to seriously challenge for anything more than midtable. Well, that was predictable, wasn't it..? The "like new players" line, and so early in the window too.. Is Pardew suffering from amnesia or what? To count Ben Arfa and Dan Gosling as new signings is one thing, but to conveniently forget about a number of outgoings is quite another. Besides Nolan, we have also lost Campbell as centre back cover, Ireland in midfield, Kuqi in attack (not going into a debate about the value to the squad - we have lost them as options to bring on in an hour of need) already this summer. I would also argue due to the timing of the transfer of Carroll, and the inability to properly replace him at the time as a consequence, we have also lost him, and when we compare last season's squad with next season's, he should also be considered. All in all we have lost our two highest goalscorers and a few squad players. We have (significantly?) strengthened the midfield, but have essentially gone backwards in defense and attack so far. Hatem is not a signing. I understand Pardew hopes he can get Ben Arfa and Gosling playing at their ability, because if he does he will have one very good and one quite decent player at his disposal, but we also have to face reality here: they have both suffered very serious injuries that may have a significant impact on the rest of their careers. They may not come back as good as they were/could have been, or they may be more injury prone in the future. I really hope this will not happen, as both players could have a great future with us, but we have to also be prepared just in case.. Pardew expects Ba to score between 15 to 25 goals! Seriously? I think we will be very lucky if he stays more or less injury free and scores 15. He has a good record in a dozen matches with West Ham, but to expect him to be amongst the league's top scorers next season is asking a bit much.. Also, this statement seems to infer Ba has been brought in as our main striker. Whilst I rate him higher than our current set of strikers, I was certainly hoping we would replace Carroll with a slightly higher calibre of forward. Again, I am pleased with getting Ba on board, especially on a free, but compared to last season's squad (with Carroll) I think we have certainly not yet made the progress in this area that Carroll's transfer fee should enable us to do, and statements like this make me worried that we don't intend to do so either. Marveaux didn't play a lot last season because of his contract situation? Does Pardew even know we are (once again) gambling on a notoriously injury prone player to take us forward? From this comment, it doesn't look like we are definitely after a first team striker. Considering the fact we have squad forwards aplenty, if we are after another striker it should surely be somebody with the profile to wear the number 9 shirt at NUFC? Why is there no new contract for Joey at the moment? Didn't Pardew himself say earlier how much he wanted to keep Joey at the club? Surely he would want to keep him here longer if he truly believes Barton had a fantastic season last year..? Also, one year contracts will be the norm!? Where is he even getting this stuff from? We are handing out 5 and 6 years contracts like there is not tomorrow for f***'s sake.. Who is to say Joey will get a contract he finds acceptable in a year's time? Is this a face off or something? Why, if you believe he had a fantastic season and you see no reason he will play even better next season, do you doubt he will get a contract elsewhere that would be acceptable for him, especially on a Bosman..? The entire Barton contract situation makes no sense at all to me, and it makes me worried what our intentions are with Barton and Enrique this transfer window. To me it looks like we are trying to convey a message how we want them to stay and excell for us next season, whlst in reality we will jump at the first chance to cash in on them. Admittedly, I am very cautious of Ashley based on what has happened in the past, and maybe I am reading too much into these quotes, but they certainly do nothing to ease my worries. I am happy with our transfer window activity so far, but we have to push on here, as this is an excellent opportunity (with the Carroll money available and relative stability after avoiding relegation more easily than expected) to show a bit of ambition and get NUFC back to where it should be (challenging for Europe). All very good points and they are my sentiments too and i hope we are proved wrong but his comments before Carrolls sale and beyond are emmbarrassing on a lot of occasions that you point out ,we as fans want 2 things a successful club and watch entertaining football but what i will not accept is being lied to and deceived ,this is not knee jerk but a valid reaction imho to Pardews comments in recent months.

Yeah cos its s*** and looks like a training top
-
Look at it the other way and a similar bid would not get refused by our board on deadline day imho
-
Imho thats what Liverpool will do
-
My take on it is we will lose him on deadline day with no time to get a adequte replacement and where have i heard that before .

The former Charlton boss suggested that shorter-term contracts might represent the future for Premier League players. “I think, like a lot of players, that yearly term contracts in the Premier League are going to be the norm,” said Pardew. Try telling your pals upstairs that win they sling 5 year contracts at everything then . My thoughts on Pardew are changing from cautious optimism to one of distrust at each passing day and The summerof69 is correct in bringing in these Pardew quotes imho as it is now showing the evidence that he is a mouth piece for the board . Tell me when that 35 million will start getting used as promised as a small portion has been used on players wages and fees etc but not transfer outlay (Nolan paid for Cabaye and his wages i would believe). If Barton and Enrique go and that is possible then atleast 5 players coming in minimum as our bench was shite last season in the majority of cases .
-
Speaking on his progress on the transfer front, Pardew told the Chronicle: “We’re all looking forward to getting back to work next Monday. “The squad is looking healthy and, hopefully, there are still one or two to come. “They won’t be in before July 4, but we hope to get one in before the tour of America – and there could well be one after the tour.” Pretty disturbing in my eyes that its only 2 players coming in total if you take Depardieus quote as gospel as imho we need atleast 3 quality players minimum to show an improvement on last season as our bench was piss poor and i believe Jose will go on deadline day like Carroll did with no chance of an adequete replacement being signed in time (Naylor not proven at our level).
-
Both sides are not telling the truth tbh. I would believe Barton over the other scum bags tbh,our team is slowly getting ripped apart by Laurel and Hardy pulling the strings of Depardew getting paid to take the flak .

Surely the point was more aimed at the concept that transfer monies in aren't ringfenced for spending on new transfers and simply disappear into the club, rather than the quality of the players signed by those clubs who apparently do allocate it for spending. The clubs mentioned have used their transfer income from selling players to buy players, spending most if not all of the same money in the process. Why are we different? Pardew did say the Carroll money would be reinvested in signings and we will wait and see ,not all in one go but all the other money incoming from Merchandising ,season ticket sales ,sponsership ,T.V money etc would normally get used without the Carroll money regardless .
-
If so, he shouldn't be. Signing two players for free would balance it out and it enables us to go for one big deal - Sturridge ticks almost every box. Believe its called "getting brainwashed" everyone is getting sucked into this mentality of not spunking big transfer fees anymore as its been a disaster in the past but some players are worth a punt in my eyes unless Sturridge is getting touted for 15 million plus ,Zog is worth 9 million imho and another one for us to persue but ive got a nagging doubt we will not spend more than 6 million on one player and thats shameful in my eyes but hope im proved wrong .
