I want a CB and RW who significantly improve the first team and if they don't significantly improve the first team, I'd rather we didn't bother. I don't want the club to tie themselves to players who are only slight improvements on the players in those positions already, causing us the same issues we already have further down the line. I don't think there's any debate that we should sell Miggy if we can and replace him with genuine quality if we can.

I think we also need to recognise that no sporting director can walk in and do a copy and paste job everywhere they go. We aren't Monaco or Spurs or Southampton, in the same way we weren't Brighton or England with Ashworth. Our situation and ambitions are unique to us, just as every other club has the their own unique requirements. For example, like it or not, at Newcastle we expect a certain level of marquee signings, that's because as a club we have always had this. Even under Ashley we pulled put a few really exciting players. As a sporting director, Mitchell can't just sign good young players to improve, in the same way that Ashworth couldnt just recruit players to sell on like he did at Brighton. Its not arrogance, its just understanding the culture of the club you are working at. Targetting and signing someone like Guehi would be a great indicator that Mitchell has got the memo. If we can have a little from column A (tried and tested quality) and a little from column B (players for the future), we have hit the sweet spot IMO.

Well I'm making the (perhaps naive) assumption that we won't have the same injury problems as last season and if I'm correct, our squad has improved significantly without having to buy or sell anyone. I'm also a believer that if you stand still, squad wise, you effectively go backwards. So in that regard, we do need to make suitable additions. Whatever happens, we are in good hands, with competent, ambitious owners and I won't be cry arsing if we don't get the shiny new players to satisfy my bizarre transfer related addictions.

What's not to like? Hes big, strong, quick, great feet, right age. He will only improve under Howe. It may be a step too far financially though.
-
Harvey Barnes is a numbers man. He might not get involved in the build up much, but put the lad around 20 yards of the box and he knows where the onion bag is. He's a valueable asset to this team, whether he starts or not.

Personally, if we get down to a 5m difference, I think we should just pay up. Literally 1m per year of the course of his contract for someone who would be a key player. It's not the same as say, SU wanting an extra 5m for Will Osula, for arguments sake. I'm certainly not complaining about them taking their time to get the best deal possible mind, I just hope when push comes to shove they get the deal done. 60m will look very good when he has a class season and becomes a player we wouldn't let go for 80 next year.

Pre-season (2026/27): NUFC to play Everton at Murrayfield on 12/08/26

Would like to know the same. -
Also, Eddie's failure is moving to Spurs for 65 quid. Just thought I'd drop that one in.
-
Right? Absolutely brilliant business.

Madueke needs Eddie Howe in his life. The lad has everything to go to the top. Fuck knows if we are interested.
-
Great let's go get madueke.

Presumably when we raise our bid by 5m or whatever we need to go through a process, which likely involves a conversation with majority shareholders. It's not as simple as a phone call, besides which, you can't let the selling club think you are desperate because then they will just expect you to up your offer each time. We will be putting together a serious package and we will want Palace to take it very seriously. We've already unsettled their player, so that's half the battle done.
-
I'd be astonished if this DOESNT happen, given everything I've seen with transfers in the past. Sounds like Palace are willing sellers, we are willing buyers and that Guehi has agreed to join us. There is also no other club in for him... as things stand. We could do with getting a wriggle on mind.
-
Some big moves happening. Makes me want Guehi even more.
-
Nice welcome video on the app.
-
He's off then
-
Calling it now. 10 goals from this lad.
-
Calling a club like Palace tiny is massively condescending, although I'm not sure it being condescending is a reason not to do it. I mean, look at it this way, some Palace fan might read it and get really upset. That's a good enough reason to use the word tiny. Remember these are the cunts that think Guehi is making a sideways step.
-
Would be a strange one.

Never mind Cup games. Gonna need him for 15 minutes every game to either keep Isak fresh or go 2 up front. So long as Wilson is injured there's going to be loads of opportunities.
-
There's no coming back from it. He's been outed as a liar. He's trying to salvage his account but he's fucked it. Just waiting for Sean Casey to come along and say something like "I hate the fakers".
-
I'd have more respect if he made up the rumours himself. It's somehow even worse now that I know he just spouts any rumour he's told.
