West Ham agree fee in region of £15m with Liverpool for Andy Carroll

Reminds me of the time Berbatov went to Man Utd, I sympathise with you. At least the Spurs fans knew that Berbatov wanted out, I guess not many thought Carroll would go until he put in the transfer request. Or that's what the poll suggests. -

Levy does all the negotiations, including making the inital bid. But I don't think anyone would be fooled into thinking Redknapp doesn't know what players are the subject of bids and the amount of the bids. He knows. -
What? Any of them would be fantastic signings for Spurs. It's a bit mad o wait until the end of the window to start throwing massive bids at so many players. The Spurs/Chelsea January 2001 method of doing business is very odd. I said a couple of days ago that bidding for Carroll was only a PR gimmick to make the fans think Redknapp were serious about getting a striker without giving the impression he had f*cked up the window. We can now add LLorente, Aguerro, Negredo and Rossi to Carroll's name. It was said 4/5 days ago that Rossi had turned Spurs down and a bid for Benzema was turned down by RM. ITK's were saying about 3 weeks ago that Spurs were in pole position to sign Suarez having made an inital bid of £18m but Redknapp was having second thoughts about whether he would be a good fit for the PL. I haven't seen or heard anything to make me think Spurs will be signing a striker this window. Massive cock up imo.

?? Pav to Sunderland has been a possibility for most of the window. Looks more likely now if Spurs sign a striker. I expect no new striker and Pav to stay.

Surely a loan to an English club would of been better? His reputation goes before him. No one wants to know unless there is an option to buy at a ridiculously low figure.

1) Spot on. Came back from the WC in sensational form and within a couple of weeks of clubbing she was sh*t 2) Miles better than Palacios. Apparently we can get a good price for Wilson if we can get his replacement signed.

Spurs won't deny it because this is their evidence showing they have been trying to buy a quality striker but failed to make a bid for Suarez and have made a complete gash of trying to get a striker in. BTW it was me that reported that one ITK was saying there had been no serious bid, there are others saying it now, in fact I can find only one who is still categorically saying that we did bid £23m for Carroll. -
Pav to Sunderland if we can sort out a striker. Levy reputedly in Madrid trying to get Lass's price down from £18m to £12m. Hmmm.....................

Gio off on loan to Dnipro. Juande Ramos showing him the nightlife made the difference......................

West Ham agree fee in region of £15m with Liverpool for Andy Carroll

It wouldn't surprise me at all if Levy and Ashley have put their heads together, I'll say I offered £25m and you turned it down. Levy gets brownie points with the fans for trying to get a good young striker in and Ashley gets brownie points with the Newcastle fans for not selling him. -

Martin Lol replied to Pilko's topic in Football
then bidding 23m is a bit of a gamble in that scenario care to explain further? All the talk in the weeks building up to the start of the window was a striker being the #1 target as Crouch, Defoe and Keane had got 1 league goal between them. A number of names were thrown up, Suarez, Forlan, Carroll, Benzema, Rossi, Eto'o and a couple of others. Bids for permanent moves/loan deals were made but the two consistent ITK talk coming out was 1) Redknapp was far from convinced that Suarez is a good fit for the Premier League and 2) Carroll was Redknapp's #1 pick but that Levy was adamant he wasn't going to bid £20m+ for a player with half a season's experience in the PL. There isn't an ITK who thinks that Carrol will move to Spurs and one has suggested that it's been put out that we have had a £25m bid turned down just to show the fans we were 'trying' to get a striker in rather than admit that they've f*cked up the window. I just share that opinion, if Levy is adamant he will not pay more than £20m for a certain player he isn't going to offer £25m for that player about 3 weeks later. -

I don't believe Levy wanted a bid for Carroll to be successful. More likely to be a PR stunt imo. -
A draw against Newcastle would have been a win if Hutton hadn't gone walkabout, that's 2 points gone down to Hutton's defensive frailties. He's done that 4 or 5 times this season and the points lost do tot up. I'm not saying he is the sole reason we are not higher than we could have been, losing at home to Wigan and away to Wham are just as damaging but defensive errors cost matches and points, and Hutton has been our worst defender by a considerable distance (imo). You serious? In that case, Newcastle should be in the top 3 if not for Perch, Simpson and Krul. You're taking what I've said out of context. In a normal season the title would be contested by the usual 3 contenders. This season any team in the top half could have mounted a half decent challenge if they could string a few results together. Spurs haven't and Hutton has been the prime culprit.

That's probably the best outcome TBH, try the track for a few years and reconsider if it really is terrible. Spread the cost of changes to the stadium as well. Would be a bit rough on Spurs, basically saying we were right all along. I'm a bit miffed by some of the stick Spurs have been getting - not on here but from people like Coe and several journalists. It's not as if we made the promises about an athletics legacy ourselves, or designed the bloody thing in the first place. We've just said we're interested, this is our plan and we reckon it's the most viable one (though we would say that). I'm backing the mighty O's. It annoys me intensely when Coe says the athletics legacy will be lost when Spurs' proposal is to try to resolve an utter shambles and make Crystal Palace, athletics spiritual home, into a world class venue. That said, this is all about what happens to the Olympic stadium, not Crystal Palace, and I hope Orient get a 25000 seater OS. They're the natural tenants geographically.

Bucketloads of experience, still better than Corluka or Hutton, the best this season at keeping Bale quiet, could be good for us for 18 months. On the forums the vast majority seem keen on the idea as well.. Having seen Hutton's positional play this season, that isn't really surprising. Phil Neville is better than Corluka? in what world is Philip f***ing Neville bette than Corluka please? Hell i'm not even a Hutton fan (hell i actually dislike him) but he's better than Neville. Hutton may be decent going forward but his positional play defensively is abysmal, Coloccini's goal was the latest in a long line of gaffes, Hutton must have cost us the best part of a dozen points this season. Corluka may be better defensively but if Redknapp won't play him because he's lost faith in him Hutton is currently the only other option and he's not good enough. I've heard that Redknapp wants Walker to have one more season out on loan so Neville could be a short term stopgap. He's far ahead of Hutton defensively, that's for sure.

Spurs have already given verbal agreement to Real that if we ever decided to cash in they would be given 'priority', whatever that means, to talk to Bale. That was the agreement when VdV was signed.
-
More or less, yes. Except there isn't a League 1 team within a mile of Cramlington or South Shields.
-
I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that they don't decide that Spurs is the least worst option!
-
Spurs are the logical choice given that their bid is the only one that does not involve using public money. That still doesn't make Spurs the right choice. There are 3 available options, Spurs moving across London, Wham borrowing £100m+ of public money to keep the running track or the stadium being scaled down to 25000 capacity to be used for athletics (and maybe Leyton Orient). The simple fact is that there isn't a good option available and the Olympic Park Legacy Company are now realising that. The fault lies squarely with the Olympic bidding team, they should have established before the bid went in exactly how the stadium would be utilised after the Games and whether that would be financially viable. They decided before the bid that the stadium would be scaled down to a 25000 seater but had no idea whether that would be financially viable, how often it would be used. Bunch of incompetents, the lot of them.

I said this a few months ago, the difference in prize money is like £7 million. Not a lot these days. 7m buys a pretty decent to good striker ......... or Robbie Keane.
