The predicament with Owen and Martins being a front 2 is that it makes wingers pointless in terms of crosses, yes Owen's handy in the air but our crosses rarely pick out the taller players so pinpointing it to a 5"8/similar sized is just not on the agena. However playing all 3 means there's very little width, and when there is the central midfield is left exposed when we inevitably lose the ball. I'm expecting the penny to drop with Roeder sometime in about March next year. Give the 3 a go if we must but for god sake sort out what the front 6's roles are, instead of "you 6. Final 3rd. Cause a mess"

Distin played mostly at left back for us, yeah? Do you think Distin is the "experienced" centre half Roeder keeps mentioning? He's 30 in December, and I can't imagine he'd come here not to be first choice, and if there's mileage in Roeder wanting Campbell maybe Distin will be the number 1 left back?

If Oliver says tomorrow that either of these deals are "wide of the mark" I'm going to kill him. Distin is better than what we have but still makes the odd error. Having said that I can't claim to have seen that much of him this season, I'll hunt for Dr. Spectrum's opinion in a second, it's bound to be on here somewhere. He's also got a good 5 years+ experience in the Premiership now so that's good. Sidwell I'm still very undecided about. Suppose it depends how we use him and in what system but I don't see him being any better than what we have.

Does it really matter, mate? Maybe Roeder did it to give Dyer a boost of confidence or maybe Nobby had it, but thought Dyer should wear it. After all, who better to "smack" the players around on the pitch? I can't be bothered to get into a debate about whether the captain matters or not but I'm pretty sure 80%+ would rather have seen Nobby captain than Dyer, mainly due to the many times Dyer has disgraced the club (and that includes possible fictional stories that are taken as fact such as burning notes etc) I do think though that it's a move to show he's wanted here and that he won't be leaving, and it doesn't matter too much because he's captained us before so it's not totally random.

I would have thought Solano would be the choice. We play him at the back because "He's done it for his country many times" but we don't let him captain us in the absence of the 4 or so ahead of him even though he's captained his country...
