Im not being funny but why do you keep on going on about Cannavaro like we ever had a chance of signing him? Thierry Henry is great but I wouldn't keep going on about how we could use his services if we signed a different striker! You should know better than to question the wisdom of Ridzuan.

If we're relegated then Shepherd goes, how would you feel about the situation?
-
agree with almost everything they said. What I do worry about though is, like some people have said, who do we replace him with? (it's even unlikely that 'we' will have any say in it as well) We really need a whole new board. Not only Shepherd has to go but Douglas Hall as well. We need directors who aren't fans, we need directors who a) can manage the finances and b) have a long-term strategy in place to develop the club from top to bottom (this should include new ideas such as a share issue (if possible), extension of st. james' (not that we need any, but still should be considered) etc.). We need someone radical to take us in a new direction. The owners such as Shepherd belong in another generation where football was simply football and nothing else. Times have changed. He hasn't.

What do you expect him to do? The Lampard caution wasn't caught on camera, do you expect him to walk up to the commentary boxes to tell them it was actually Lampard? Fucking hell. don't diss the ref yo!

Just thought I'd get a discussion going because everyone's opinions seem to differ on him so... What impact do all of you envisage him having on.. a) the type of football we play (longball/short, direct/pass around, quick/slow etc.) b) the lineup we put out each game (whose going to partner him in the center? is he going to be in the center? can he be a second striker? how about on the wing?) c) how well we do this season (in fa cup, league cup, uefa cup and premiership. Should we use him in all those competitions or save him up for the premiership only?)

Glad he's back, hope he's back for good.

Interesting read and certainly showed there's always another side to the story. Shepherd out though
-
I say just let Shearer takeover now and have his stint THEN we can start over without always be expecting the 'king' to return.
-
Sell him asap.

His left is as good as Michael Owen's right. Vice versa applies for his right. Trust me on this one . He's not two-footed.
-
Does anyone know how much he was signed for? Usually there's a PLC statement when we sign a player but I haven't seen one for Sibierski? Any idea what the price was? I remember someone saying SSN quoting the price at 350k but does anyone have any confirmation?
-
Why will it be a bleak few months? Our team (first team that is) is better than last year's. Alright we have no squad but we should still be able to do fine in the league. We might suffer a bit in the cups but I'm willing to bet that we'll be 6th or thereabouts come January.
-
We definitely are skint. But maybe Roeder just couldn't get the right players in for the right prices. Maybe that's why we're saving up for January. But anyways, we're skint. The fact that we had to ask to Chelsea to loan Bridge to us till January proves that we're skint.

He's being brought in as a striker... Now we have five strikers, two of whom are shit (Luque and Sibierski) but at least we have bodies, right?
-
Freddy just needs some compan when he's on one of his weekly pie binges.
-
Again to Viduka, no no no no no.
-
So far, the signings that Roeder has made have been top class but if we sign Viduka, it'll really be a waste of money. Even if he's only going to be Ameobi's sub.

Striker's goals tbh . strikers rarely get chances as easy as those, thats all i was saying So you intend to ignore all goals scored that are "easy"? absolutely not, Van Nistelrooy is one of my favourite players in the world to watch. all i'm saying is, his 4 goals cannot be taken seriously as an indication of his strike rate for the season. 2 goals were mishits, the other 2 were as a result of comincal defending. ie, predicated on unusual circumstances that he'll probably have to wait moths for It's just about being in the right place at the right time and so far for Zamora, three of his goals have been scored because he's been in the right place at the right time. PS. Goals are goals, Liverpool don't get an extra goal just because Agger's strike was stunning.

This thread is awesome And I actually mean it, good debating here!

Didn't Mista get 20 goals or something of that sort in the season they won it? I seem to remember that he was close to being the top goalscorer then faded the next season because his supply line ie. Aimar and Vicente were injured for the most part of that season. Moving on, I think Baraja is top class. Albelda is also very underrated. Both Spanish internationals yet I don't understand why they were never snapped up by any of the big clubs yet someone like Mendieta was sold for a humongous fee. Mendieta only did excelled because of the structure of the team (similar to how Gerrard has stepped it up a notch after Rafa joined Liverpool) but Baraja and Albelda provide much more stability to the center of their midfield. Too bad Aimar's been injured for the past couple of seasons and now, sadly, sold because I reckon if he and Vicente were fit for the past couple of seasons, they could have challenged Barca for the Primera Liga and Champions League.
