Davy Pröpper has quit football with immediate effect aged 30 stating he does not feel comfortable in football's culture, has lost the fun in the game and is finding it too difficult to motivate himself every day. Fair play for handing in a lucrative running contract I suppose.

Not very as far as I know. Louis van Gaal doesn't seem to particularly rate him. Frank de Boer had him part of the squad for two international games, but he is yet to make his debut.

It's a bit more complicated than that for me. Playing as a striker he often appeared to shy away from a battle and just showed absolutely no desire to get himself in the 6 yard box and fight the opposition's center backs. I find it astonishing to see how combative he is in midfield all of a sudden. For some reason he must have found it really hard to deal with the burden of being the lad relied upon to put the ball in the net, whereas he appears to know absolutely no fear in midfield.

I think there is a place for a player who combines the best of what Tiote and Sissoko did for us. Bigger question is if his current form is a flash in the pan or if he's finally found his true position.
