    The Return of the Ace

I thought we weren't allowed to post pictures from nufc.co.uk?

Luque has not been 'absolutely s*** in every single game', but i can't get into that again, and who says he's going to leave? After Shepherd blocked his move to PSV it was widely accepted we'd be paying him £40k a week until his contract expires. Let's hope our new manager, if indeed we have one in the Summer, deals with him better than Roeder has. Duff probably has improved, but not enough considering the match time he has had. He barely looks match fit yet... Shepherd didn't block his move man, Luque wouldn't take a pay cut! The PSV chairman came out and said otherwise, didn't he? Anyway, if you're correct, it means Luque leaving is even more unlikley. Edit: http://www.dutchnews.nl/news/archives/2007/02/league_leader_psv_tops_soccer.php

    Eriksson For Toon

3 consecutive QF appearances with the current England side is looking like some feat at the moment, bearing in mind two of those campaigns ended in penalty shootouts too - Sven can hardly take the blame for Lampard & Co 'bottling it', can he?

Nonsencial to not put our best team out and make risks like that - when you consider if we win this game, we're potentially two points away from European qualification. Dyer is better than Carroll, obviously, but has been awful of late - that's the only 'risk' selection-wise. I'd rather play N'Zogbia at left-back than Carr or Babayaro, Edgar showed more potential in a couple of games than Onyewu ever has here, and Luque will certainly do no worse than Duff. Edgar i'll give you - he's definitely looked assuring at centre-back and i'd like to see him there more. N'Zogbia has not once played left-back in his Newcastle career. If he's too lightweight to play in the centre of midfield, i don't see how he is going to be much better as a defender. It's a huge risk, like i say, because he's never played there before and we don't know what he'll be like. You can say what you like - if you think he'll be better there, that's fine, that's your opinion - but we just don't know. Actually he has played there before, admittedly not for an entire game, but he's capable of it. I don't expect him to be excellent defensively, but then i wouldn't expect that from Carr either, and Charles is bound to offer us more going forward. Carroll's never started a game for us and has spent his career in the academy, plus a few games in the reserves. And he's away from home. While Dyer, although in consistent, is one of those players that if you've got him in the team - you KNOW you have a chance of winning the game. I would start Sibierski before Dyer too, though. He just hasn't looked himself recently (or rather he has looked himself, according to some) and considering the injury he picked up the other day i'd much rather bring him on as an impact substitute when defender's legs being to tire. And Duff? I haven't liked him this season, but his last couple of games, he's been good. He faltered in the second half against Arsenal but it wasn't his fault he wasn't taken off. What's the point in dropping him just as he is beginning to perform, just as he is beginning to show his former form as a matchwinner? And for Luque? Bloody hell. There has been no significant improvement in Duff's game despite being given every opportunity of first team football - he's lost it, in my opinion. How about we give Luque a chance to show his former form as a matchwinner? I think we'll agree to disagree, mate.

  8. Personally i support whichever team i actually want to win, wether they're English or not doesn't automatically make my decision. Tonight, for example, i wanted Valencia to beat Chelsea, and Man Utd to beat Roma.

    Sell Dyer?

Wonderfully stupid post. Nice one. Was it? An injury prone, relatively ineffective 28 year old, demanding at least 50k a week... i don't think they will be queuing up.
  10. Unsurprising. If we keep Roeder they will finish above us next season.
  11. Duff and N'Zogbia have been as bad as each other this season. I'd start Luque on the left for every game from now until the end of the campaign, if only to create some interest in him from other clubs. Taylor, Butt & Solano were good today.
  12. I'm more worried about Milner leaving, he's the one usually excluded from Roeder's 'the future of Newcastle United' speeches.
  13. Fulham are in real trouble.
  14. Mug-tastic. I'll take you disagreeing with me as a complement.
  15. I hope we finish 17th. Roeder putting together a run of results, taking us into a European place, would probaly be the worst thing that could happen to this club - long term.
  16. Good save by James, seconds remain. Full Time: 2-1.
  17. And all the best managers do at several times in their careers. Ferguson, Capello, Hitzfeld, Benitez, could go on, have all also been found wanting in the CL at certain times, and all with brilliant teams. Which is often over looked when people focus on a manager and want to run him down on his own. I doubt Capello, Hitzfeld or Benitez would fail to even reach the Champions League final if they had three years with the Chelsea squad and an unlimited transfer budget. Ifs and buts, and regardless of the amount Chelsea have spent, it's not always been on good players. Those other managers have bought shite players too, you know, they just didn't have a minumum of £25m to bid for them. Yes, all managers make good and bad signings, Mourinho has had significantly more money to do so than most. I'm not sure what point you're making.

  19. I agree to an extent. He is a very good man manager and motivator, but in the latter stages of the Champions League he has been found wanting tactically on several occasions.
  20. "These wonderful fans deserve a trophy." "Titus Bramble has all the attributes to be a top, top defender." ...are two the C5 commentators struggle to get through a game without.
  21. why the fuck do you think they are down there genius? There is more chance of us qualifying for Europe than going down, honestly.
