I think it would be a better deal if we were spending £5m on him, then he could gradually takeover from Butt and we'd actually be gaining something long-term from giving him chances in the first team. I see no value in taking a young player on loan as cover, look what happened with Rossi.

He would be a good permanent signing, but why would we even consider taking him on loan? Butt is doing well in his role for now, are we supposed to drop him to give a Chelsea player some first team experience?

I like Emre, but we do need at least one central midfielder to scores goals and that certainly isn't going to be Butt. Dyer seems to have significantly improved infront of goal, so i'd probaly play him ahead of the Turk, for now. No need to sell him though, i think we're relatively strong in the position with Butt, Parker, Dyer and Emre to chose from. I would look to exchange Parker for a more attacking player, if anything, but it can't be a priority in this window.

Same here. Mourinho really needs to win the Champions League again to justify the hype surrounding him, he's been found wanting tactically several times in the competition. I have little doubt, with Chelsea's funds at his disposal, Hiddink would obtain it within 3 seasons.

It could go two ways.. a) SWP recaptures his Man City form playing week in, week out, and we have one of the best wingers in the league on our books. b) He's another Duff: dissapointing and past his best, whilst having a detrimental effect on the development of our brightest prospect in the repsective position. Bent, for £12m, an amazing sign? He's an average Premiership striker who will be lucky to see 20 goals a season again in his career. Also, is he going to be happy going from the best player at a club, to 3rd choice at another? We should be looking at someone who'll be comfortable being benched when Owen and Martins are fit, yet capable of scoring goals when one of them isn't. I'd suggest an aging but proven player, such as Viduka or someone young and inexperienced, like Nugent.

What is that based on? Do you really think several top Premiership clubs are interested in him just because he can hit a decent freekick? I would be suprised if you have seen either play enough to compare them defensively.

If you take a moment to assess our squad, and highlight the players we currently have good enough for a top 6 Premiership squad, the answer is yes. Gk = Given, Harper. Lb = , Babayaro. Cb = Taylor, . Cf= , Sibierski. ...There are plenty of gaps to fill and it's Roeder's job to do that as soon as possible. It's unrealistic to aim for it in a solitary transfer window, it's a process which will take the majority of his 2 year contract to complete, if he accomplishes it at all. In the meantime, the likes of Huntington, Ramage, Pattison, etc. can do job when called upon, but ofcourse we need major signings in this window.. it's now Glenn's decision to prioritise which. I disagree we would better off waiting until the Summer, as you've proved with your examples, that's only very specific to players whose contracts are up at the end of the season. The bulk of our targets are going to cost exactly the same now as they would do in June.
