Newcastle United - Am I happy only when it rains?
Yorkie replied to South-Cheshire-Toon's topic in Football
How can it be grating reading people trying to find the positives in the situation? It's stuff like that which really does make you wonder if you're just desperate to be miserable. (I'm not saying you are) There was also no "just about" avoiding a thrashing, either. We were behind for about ten minutes. -
Ah God you're right; it's the same tune isn't it. Grim. One of my most uncomfortable football experiences ever was being sat with a bunch of Leeds fans singing that when they beat ManU at Old Trafford in the cup (Beckford winner).
-
Interesting that it originated away from Newcastle; and makes sense to me. I've always thought it sounded a bit un-Newcastley cos it's such a bloody drawl ("ewwwwzat team we call yanaaaaiiiiiiiited"), and - to that end - it takes very little imagination to hear it sung by Smoggies...

People's expectations have skyrocketed after last season and with reality setting in that we're not even a guarantee for top 7, let alone top 4, the angst comes out in spades. I feel like there's a bit of a resistance to accept that we're not the team from last season, and a fear that it was a false dawn. Some of the overly negative stuff can be incredibly galling to read when you're wound up enough by the football alone, and I've found myself prickling at some of the post-match guff recently; but I accept that the forum itself has always been a punching bag for when things aren't going the way we hope. It's just the nature of the place. If you're being deliberately edgy with the vitriol then you can absolutely fuck off, like. -
https://www.instagram.com/reel/C29kt26tR3N/?igsh=MTY2NjUzN2NvanJ1bg== I'm not one to beat my chest over England but I'll be proud as fuck seeing him representing both the national team and Newcastle at SJP. Back to the weekend; I'd been thinking for a while that he was seriously overdue a goal from open play. When you consider how much time he spends in the final third, it's a bit mad he's not got on the end of a cross like that before. I can barely even recall a shot on target from him, FKs aside obviously. Was a tidy finish on his swinger. Hopefully more to come cos bloody hell I love a goal from Kieran Trippier.

Just flicked Inter-Juve on. So depressing that they've got those horrendous double advertising boards to assault us with enormous ads for betting, NFT and other things designed to bankrupt the everyman. Just so obnoxious; I pray we never see it at SJP. Flick over and it's the same at Lyon. Grim.

Absolutely. Joelinton is one of the first names on the teamsheet for me. He's been a huge miss this season (when missing).
-
Gerrin. Big win for them.
-
Seem to remember Villa fans properly hating him. @brummie? Seemed like another talent who absolutely murdered his career going to that shit-tip of a club (Chewsea I mean) so you've got to be pleased for the lad that he's having a resurgence. Pity he couldn't avoid getting bullied by wor Lewis for goal 4, mind.
-
all the talent in the Prem and he's at Ajax keeping tabs on Henderson. Good God.
-
Brilliant work from Miley on that goal and the finish was peng. Bruno's assist was fucking sumptuous too.

All fair enough, and sorry for being disrespectful; I was speaking very flippantly and perhaps Sweden was a poor example, particularly if their gates are on the up - that's a great thing. I do stand by the general point however that increasing interest and revenues in the national league systems is the best route to increasing levels of competition in a European context. Regionalising is just one idea.

Expecting a win and calling out a poor result is fair enough; but sometimes it happens - there's a squad of professional footballers on our side and a squad of professional footballers on their side. The away defeat was in the midst of that awful schedule with all the injuries. But you're in the Eddie Howe thread saying it's unacceptable. We got zero wins against Bournemouth last season too; none against Leeds or Crystal Palace either. Was that unacceptable? It's not about unconditional praise for Howe; he made errors today and I'm bothered by his delays when it comes to making changes. It's about calling out unnecessarily loaded and negative conclusions which don't consider the nuances of the situation.
-
Meaning, what? Dock his wages? Sack him? Public humiliation? What must we do given we cannot accept this? What are the repercussions?
-
a miracle it happened now and not a few weeks ago tbh.
-
6 from the mighty Villa. It's a poor result and he's made errors. But I'd be more worried if he wasn't making changes at all.
-
I'm not happy with the result by any means but I'm happy that we did enough to avoid an absolute disaster. We were faced with a similar situation on Boxing Day but could've played until New Years Day and not clawed that one back. So there's a bit of growth there. We're a lower top half team at the moment. You're only fuming with that if you've got aspirations of Champions League football, which is not and has not been on the cards this year. But even then, last season we drew at home to Bournemouth, Palace, Leeds, West Ham. Draws happen, it's annoying after the surge in midweek, but we can work with one point.
-
He made the right change, just too late. Same happened against Villa but we got away with it that time; we barely did here. Hopefully he addresses that very glaring issue.
-
Bad result. Not embarrassing, like, Luton aren't Derby for crying out loud. They just twatted Brighton 4-0. Bad result, avoided a catastrophic one though. Learn from it and move on.
-
Come on, lads.
-
Four goals to force the decision. I'll defend Howe until the end of the earth but fucking howay.

Ah blimey. WeR'E bAcK

Won one point from a losing position all season.
