  1. It`s ironic that not long ago people would have laughed at the thought of having a Brazilian keeper in the team but these days it`s more common place- Dida (Milan), Julio Cesar (Inter), Gomes (PSV, now Spurs), Doni (Roma), Cavalieri (Liverpool-not 1st team but highly rated) and Valencia have just signed a Brazilan keeper too Agree and I don`t think Diego would be much of a `gamble`.....
  2. Niko Kranjar? could be on his way to Hamburg for 9m or something
  3. Newcastle 1-0 Bolton: Kevin Keegan struggles to win back fans http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/2008/08/25/newcastle-1-0-bolton-kevin-keegan-struggles-to-win-back-fans-115875-20711259/
  4. Let's not get too carried away. He will be a great buy, but I remember Veron being quality the first month at Man Utd. so was Elano, then look what happened in the second part of the season you wouldn't have Elano here last season? so what if he had a crappy 2nd half of the season, the whole team suddenly collapsed. he has started quite well this season, wouldn't you say? would take him in a heartbeat. especially when it was reported that it was a choice between Elano and Smith as the replacement for Dyer.......would rather have had Elano who does nowt for half a season than Smith who did nowt completely all season!
  5. Viana reportedly going to sign for Racing Santander from Valencia on loan....... A couple players who we released in the summer like Diatta ,Carr and Troisi are still without a club
  6. Gutiérrez makes himself at home Aug 25 2008 by Luke Edwards, The Journal KEVIN Keegan has admitted he has never seen a player settle into English football as quickly as Jonás Gutiérrez after the Argentina winger delivered another excellent performance against Bolton. Gutiérrez has quickly established himself as a crowd favourite, but the former Real Mallorca man is also a hit in the dressing room says his manager. And, with a combination of craft, guile and determination, Keegan is convinced he is going to be a big success. He said: “I’ve never known a player settle so quickly. That’s how he came into the club. Day one he put his music on, spoke in English to everybody and walked out on the training ground. “We did a bleep test on him and I’ve never seen anyone run like that. The next day we did a bit of football and I turned round to Terry Mac and said: ‘The fans are going to love him here’. That was the view of all my staff. Wow. “He’s got that dual strength of ability and putting work rate on the end of it. It’s a wonderful combination. That’s what the fans love about him already, tackling, working hard, tracking back.” Much has been made of the recruitment process at United with executive director (football) Dennis Wise and head of recruitment Tony Jimenez supposedly in charge of signing the players. But, whatever the situation – and Keegan is adamant he retains the final say on new arrivals – he is delighted with Gutiérrez and his compatriot Fabricio Coloccini. He added: “These two guys I’ve fetched in have played in Spain. That was their first move, that’s the hardest one for them. Spain was good for them because it was the same language. The two we’ve got are top notch. They’re not gambles. They can play at the highest level and have done.” Meanwhile, Keegan admitted it is up to him and his players to provide the football that will bring the fans back to St James’s Park after only 47,711 turned up on Saturday. He said: “The onus is on us to get people in to come and want to watch Newcastle United. “If we do well they’ll come. I don’t think we’ll be the only club who get affected at this time of year, a lot of people are on holiday, the credit crunch is there. It’s our job to make them want to come back.’’ http://www.journallive.co.uk/nufc/newcastle-united-news/2008/08/25/guti-rrez-makes-himself-at-home-61634-21597861/
  7. I`ve watched a fair bit of the Argentine league lately and a couple of players of I`ve been impressed with have been (not saying we need them) Damien Escudero (River Plate) - attacking left sided midfielder that can play just off the front man Diego Valeri - skilful winger who plays for Lanus. Diego Buonanotte - River Plate Playmaker but looks Madrid bound Neri Cardozo Pacey winger and good dribbling skills, and creates a lot of chances for his team Fabian Assman - keeper for Independiente - I know we dont need a keeper but what a name
  8. have you really seen him play? or is he an FM legend? never heard of him like many of you
  9. Maldini wasn`t a bad right footed left back
  10. never heard of him mackems.gif Well he did fall with the Werder Bremen management recently after he went to the Olympics for Brazil but I very much doubt he will end up here unfortunately
  11. definitely Valencia over Malouda. At least Valencia proved himself in the EPL week in week out whilst Malouda did pretty much bugger all last season. Would be on less wages too......we don`t have a great record with Frenchies anyway as they usually end up whinging after a season
  12. well if we are to make any signings this week at least they`ll see a club at the top end of the table (even though we`re just 2 games in) which can only be a good thing for helping attract them here
  13. Portsmouth’s latest signing Armand Traore has revealed he turned down six clubs to join Portsmouth including Man City and Newcastle. Traore told The News: 'I had Sunderland, Manchester City, Newcastle, Stoke, Hull and West Ham interested in me. As soon as I heard Portsmouth, though, I wanted to come here. 'It would have been nice to stay in London but I prefer Portsmouth to West Ham. It's great so many clubs were interested, I'm happy about that because it means people look. 'I had heard a few rumours about Portsmouth before the summer and then they got real in the last few weeks. I will definitely get experience if I play every week and travelling with the team. 'It's what I need really, I couldn't get much at Arsenal. I'm very happy to be here and happy I am going to play more football at Portsmouth than Arsenal. 'That's why I chose to come here.'
  14. Keegan’s boost for Ameobi Aug 23 2008 by Alan Oliver, Evening Chronicle ...............But Keegan told me today: “Shola is back with us and he will be in full training on Monday. He’s fit and I am quite happy to have him back. “For £2.4m where am I going to get a player like Shola? “He knows the Premier League and the club and he understands the area. I don’t look at it as a minus at all. “Who knows? He might be our top scorer this season – I wouldn’t put it past him. mackems.gif “We all know players who were going to leave, but stay and have a great season and then sign a new contract.” http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/nufc/newcastle-united-news/2008/08/23/keegan-s-boost-for-ameobi-72703-21591731/
  15. Charlie can still be Toon darling Aug 23 2008 by Alan Oliver, Evening Chronicle ......Keegan added: “I am trying to keep Charlie in the side somewhere, as I’ve got a lot of players who play in the same position. “It’s tough on Jose, because he’s trained very hard, but I just felt Charlie’s experience of the Premier League, and his ability to get forward, might help us at Old Trafford. “I thought he did very well. “I still think he’s learning the left-back position a bit, but for me the pluses far outweigh the minuses, and that’s why I played him. “He plays left-back for the French Under-21s, so I’m not asking him to play a position he doesn’t know. “He’s never complained. He’s been absolutely fantastic.” http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/nufc/newcastle-united-news/2008/08/23/charlie-can-still-be-toon-darling-72703-21591734/
  16. I'd prefer a player does this than fanny about like Ronaldo. Reckon Robinho would be fantastic in the premiership. judging by the comments on the Saviola thread many people on this board would probably not want Robinho as he would be `too lightweight` for the premiership
  17. Keegan keen on Senderos Magpies boss hints at interest in defender By James Dall Last updated: 22nd August 2008 Sky Sports News understands Newcastle United manager Kevin Keegan has hinted at an interest in signing Arsenal defender Philippe Senderos. Senderos was linked with a transfer to St James' Park earlier this summer, but Gunners boss Arsene Wenger rejected the reports. The Switzerland international could find his first-team opportunities at Arsenal restricted this term after the club landed 31-year-old Mikael Silvestre from Manchester United on Wednesday. Reports emerged on Friday claiming AC Milan could move for Senderos; however the Italian giants have failed to confirm or deny the speculation. Keegan, though, has intimated that he could strengthen his defensive ranks with the addition of the 23-year-old, who signed for the Gunners in 2003 from Servette. http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_4030874,00.html
  18. it is on their website. http://www.hamburg1.de/hh1/sport_article.html?sport/2008/08/21/1267700000 btw, according to Hamburg fans on another forum I post at he had a disastrous season last year with them in terms of form
  19. Zigic on loan? Seemingly available but a injury prone last season but not many more taller strikers than him around http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11827_4024149,00.html I remember reading something like that in Keegan`s autobiography about making sure the players he brought in were of the right character......can only be a good thing with our record of buying wantaway/whinging foreigners in recent years

another slow news day eh ---------------------------------------- Obafemi Martins urged to keep on scoring Aug 21 2008 by Alan Oliver, Evening Chronicle http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/nufc/newcastle-united-news/2008/08/21/obafemi-martins-urged-to-keep-on-scoring-72703-21578166/
  21. he hasn`t "turned us down", how can he if we haven`t made him an offer as reported? he`s just said he hasn`t had an offer and in the meantime will fight for his place at Real
  22. Suazo or Milito on loan? Suazo seemingly out of favour at Inter and Milito wont fancy the 2nd division of the Spanish league
  23. he was the one responsible for employing that muppet McClaren wasn`t he......good riddance
  24. yep, we could do much better yeah David Healy the other alternative
