  1. as high as 4th? --- Newcastle United still ambitious says Cheick Tiote CHEICK Tioté insists Newcastle United still match his soaring ambition despite a summer that has seen two more big hitters leave the black and white pack. Jose Enríque’s departure on Friday morning was the latest dark dispatch from St James’ Park in a summer that has merely reinforced the impression that United are now among the Premier League’s second-class citizens when it comes to big name recruitment. Newcastle have failed to land their top striker targets and are sticking to financial parameters which – though necessary to make the club self-sufficient – will leave them struggling to break into the European elite anytime soon. Inevitably that will raise questions about blue chip performers like Tioté but the Ivorian enforcer insists he remains happy at Newcastle, despite the overtures of big spending top flight clubs like Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal. “Yes, I am happy with the direction of the club,” he said. “For me I do not have a problem to play here. I am happy here. “In football you don’t know, every summer some player might need to move and you don’t know when they have to move. “But now we do need someone on the left side because Enríque has gone. We don’t have a left back now and we need to address that.” A year ago, Tioté was an unknown defensive midfielder unable to get into the FC Twente side but his progression to key man at St James’ Park is proof that there can be merit in Newcastle’s current strategy. And while Tioté admits he would rather not have seen Kevin Nolan, Andy Carroll and José Enríque depart, he believes the squad that United will tackle this season with is stronger and more “complete” than last year. “Football is relative. There are some big players that we’ve lost – (Kevin) Nolan, (Andy) Carroll and (Jose) Enríque,” he said. “But then there are new players who can make some impact in team. For Newcastle now we have more possibilities than we did last season because the squad is more complete now. “I am happy with the squad I think but I don’t know where we can finish. Maybe 10th – maybe even as high as fourth. But we need to work hard because a lot of teams are ready for this season.” http://www.journallive.co.uk/nufc/newcastle-united-news/2011/08/13/newcastle-united-still-ambitious-says-cheick-tiote-61634-29227491/

  3. sounds too good to be true unfortunately.
  4. been reported from various websites.....I think 2 days ago though mind.. The PSV tactician then went on to discuss the situation of Wilfred Bouma and Erik Pieters, who were both dropped from the starting XI for the Eredivisie opening day defeat to AZ last weekend. “I have already spoken with Wilfred and everything has been solved. I have told him that we will not allow him to leave. That’s also the case for Pieters.”

    Alan Pardew

Pardew added: “We will get a striker and left-back over the line, 100%. “That will be before the window shuts. We will chase those targets." Read More http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/newcastle-united/nufc-news/2011/08/12/alan-pardew-s-pledge-to-newcastle-united-fans-72703-29222324/#ixzz1UoX770GD

  7. no and certainly not for the reported (10m?) fee or whatever. Anyway, I think he`ll be a bit disappointed. Didn`t he say he wants to move to the likes of Inter Milan, Bayern or Barca?
  8. on loan I would.....we should have at least some contingency in place /agreement with Liverpool should we not have any replacement for Enrique in by the close of the window.....but this is NUFC after all....we`ll end up with sod all.
  9. watching the game now. Japan have fielded a pretty strong lineup......
  10. Was really impressed with Miyaichi at Feyenoord last season, especially since it was his first season playing professional football.
  11. One player who I think is definitely attainable is Paraguay`s Nelson Valdez (relegated with Hercules)....not exactly a prolific goalscorer but a real workhorse, pace, power, could handle the Prem league and would play well with Ba up front IMO. For 4m euros he should be snapped up.....or try to sneak in a swap with Xisco even. hmm.... Klaas Jan Huntelaar? Actually he hasn`t been so successful at Schalke since he signed (he is 3rd or 4th choice behind Raul / Farfan and Edu). Cost big money but not made the impact. Also like the look of Paolo Guerrero of Hamburg but again not sure if we`d be able to get him (or interested for that matter).
  12. from what I`ve read on a few Dutch forums, he`s pretty average and probably just the best of an average bunch of left backs the Netherlands have. They are hoping Van Aarnholt makes the step up....would rather we went for the latter but probably not realistic (loan at most)
  13. The Sun obviously don't know he has a clause. pretty unusual for PSV to have release clauses in their player`s contracts as they usually buy up the best talents and sell them on for massive profits.....so 5m euros seems really low to me if true.
  14. So was Jan Kromkamp (RB) at the time when he signed for Liverpool ...total flop.
  15. reminds me of Kerlon, the player Inter Milan signed. Also had a big reputation in Brazil (mainly for that annoying seal dribble) and has done little since he signed, not made any impact on his loan spells anywhere in Europe and even back home.
  16. Never seen him play. How is he? Is he quick? Because we need some speed in attack.. Toivonen is a good player. 6'3" tall and with good technique. He isn't a speed merchant but isn't slow either. He's really good at holding up the ball and playing in other players. But he's still a pretty good goalscorer as well. Would fit us really well IMO. And as a bonus he's from my part of Sweden as well. And for that alone I'd want him at Newcastle. He`d cost a fair amount of money I presume. PSV don`t really need to sell and they are the type of club that usually buy up the best talents in the Dutch league fairly cheap and sell them on at a massive profit. I think he could certainly play well in the Prem league, he`s 6`3 but I don`t think we need a target man as mentioned, more a quick, mobile player than can get in behind defenders. How much do you think he`d cost? I`m guessing at least 10m euros as PSV are in no hurry/need to sell.
  17. on one of their forums, they mentioned he`s supposedly out for the first month of the season. Same amount of time that "scuppered" the supposed Barnetta deal.
  18. Daniel Pranjic? He's at Bayern but not getting much of a game since he joined (other than off the bench) but he's a very good player who you might remember from Euro 2008 / world cup qualifiers for Croatia. No chance we're looking at him probably anyway.
  19. I just read he cost you €14 million plus euros. Guardiola has signed his fare share of expensive duds along with Caceres (16.5m euros) and Chygrynskiy (25m euros)....christ ...but I suppose the overall success offsets that
  20. obviously not unless he has a European passport. Was highly rated before but I heard he was crap when he went on loan to Fiorentina.
  21. Mancienne was s****.....looked like a lost child out there Goetze and Kagawa put in a top performance...good to see the latter back from injury ....Hamburg were made to look very average
  22. according to a Man Utd forum...he's injured and will miss the first month a la Barnetta.

    Xisco

I can't really agree or disagree based on any evidence TBH, but as someone who is quite naive I would say go for it! The problem is that we have a lot of strikers, even though we don't have many good ones. At this point he's probably behind Ba, Shola, Loven and Best, so I can't see how that could change unless he was like Messi in training (or how Shola must presumably be). agreed with that.....he's barely had a chance at all but of the very limited games he has played he has done ok (like scoring on his debut then being benched/out of the wilderness not long after that)....and did fine in his last game (ages ago obviously), coming off the bench and setting up a goal. He should at least have been given a chance in pre-season with the squad.
  24. utter crap....would rather have SWP and I'm no big fan of his either
  25. just seen Barca get pummeled 1-4 by Chivas. some absolute cracking goals.....especially Fabien's 2 goals, the bicycle kick in particular. you can see the goals via that well known video sharing site if interested Title: Fabian's Golazos lift Chivas past Barcelona
