Basically the club hasn't got a left back.

See the thing is he is very good at handling the media. He has clever and intricate judgement and this most of the time will paper over the problems (no striker and so on...) as they arise. Taking charge at a club like ours brings real pressure but this far he has handled it well. I agree when the rope runs out his profile will be much improved from before...

Highly rated by Mourinho at one time.
-
More or less similar to the Man U fiasco, but done more sneakily. In effect he is gambling on getting is money back over the long term and/or selling the club at a profit.** Is he evil? Yes. Is there evil in the world? There are places the light does not reach.

I know somebody who was a school friend of the Pet Shop boys.

It's more likely their Moroccan striker.

How would that work? I might not, that's the point but i'd rather be as positive as possible in order to enjoy as much of football as possible. The way half this forum goes on you'd think they were on the verge of slitting their wrists. Not that this forum is in anyway an indicator of your average Newcastle fan. From what I read elsewhere, generally this forum is notoriously positive about the Ashley tenure. TT is way more cynical. Think there's about 2 positivists amongst the 40 odd regulars...

The club has already said it wants a top ten finish, i think everyone can agree, we'd all be happy with a top ten this year? If so, im not even sure what we are arguing about. We were about 3mins away from a top ten finish this season just gone, and everyone assured me the team and squad would be significantly improved with the Carroll money. Bearing that in mind, top ten is the bare minimum we should be aiming for; as far as I'm concerned if we fail to achieve that it's a major failing. The way the league is bunched up, if you finish mid-table then there's no reason you shouldn't be looking to push for the next level which would be Everton in 7th. Agreed. Honestly the frustration is that with just a bit of focus and planning and less short-termism and money grabbing even these clowns could get a 7th out of our current set up.

Hope this isn't going to be a 'he left on the last day and we didn't have time to replace him' stunt...
-
As things stand he's replacing a valuable first team player ffs. And Parky, why didn't Ferguson send him out on loan, it's not like he isn't fond of doing so. Think realistically where ManU are and the type of squad they accumulate season to season he doesn't have it to compete for a first team place there. Simple as that. But in our current predicament and the clowns running the club I'm thankful for small mercies. I think he's decent and has time on his side.

I'm not distraught at the signing, I'm distraught at the situation and where we're heading. It's not an ambitious signing, it's taking a punt on 'never-was' who looks to be on the way down and I think we can do far, far better. I've seen him play a few times, no more no less, and I appreciate there's an outside chance he could prove me wrong. It annoys me that we're taking the risk when we should have enough money set aside, we've had since January to think about this and also the fact that we have/had players on the books that are getting shipped out and are far more likely to get you goals and perform. I also think it's ominous that Ferguson's had a good look at him and is happy to ship him out on a permanent transfer. But as I say, good luck to him, we'll have to go with it. He's got about 20 million internationals ahead of him over there! He asked to leave in Jan cause he wanted more football.

Distraught!111 lol

Best donkeying it up..

No reason on earth he can't be decent in the PL. The tune will soon change if he playes well for half a dozen games.
-
He needs a run of games, he has all the tricks in his locker and he will get better as he develops some composure which comes with experience and games. He's been through the Clairfontaine academy in France so definitely isn't shit.

Being serious for a minute who else is gonna pay him 60k a week?

I'd say it's 100% down to our owners not rewarding our best players with new contracts that they deserve and not spending money that they promised they would. If they cared about the club instead of doing everything the cheapest way possible without giving a shit, we'd have a good squad of happy players. That is definitely part of the picture I agree and perhaps the greater share of the blame. Think with the Carroll sale and the promises made, the players were expecting positive movement in the transfer market and a general uplit at the club regarding intention to compete. They clearly feel this is not going to happen.
