you've gotta wonder at what point trying to give your players confidence just becomes idiocy. if i was one of them i'd be hoping he's telling them the truth behind closed doors like. that said, they aren't necessarily playing that much below their level so his words cant do much, their midfield is frighteningly bad. we saw ourselves for years that it doesnt matter what your defence is like, if they're continually under pressure they cant keep up.

Bruce quotes in the Journal yesterday saying they've only played badly once this season

actually felt sorry for him when he gave away the pen, first time ever

fucking hell aye, might be some potential in there somewhere mate

in his short time on the pitch reminded me a bit of Beye actually. tall, smooth, dreamy
-
personally i'd leave Raylor at LB and put Santon at RB, then bring in a LB asap. best way to improve the team short and long term imo. edit - there's also an argument for playing Jonas on the right and bringing in Marveuax at LW but that's too much change for the short term.

He's fucking great like

I'm just pig sick of seeing Simpson jogging back while the opposition are pouring forward and him hoofing it up the line all the time. We're playing possession football now and we need more players who are comfortable on the ball. Anyone remember when he kicked it directly out of play v spurs under little pressure? He then turned to Tiote and blamed him for not knocking it long,we've got a player on the bench who looks comfortable in possession and has looked good defensively at his previous club, give him 90 mins against Wigan.
-
Give him number 9 next season imo, start a tradition where you have to earn it for a season rather than getting it based on a transfer fee. Also takes a bit of pressure away from anyone coming in.
-
All good points and I think Pardew deserves credit, however, our unbeaten run has been brilliant but under considerable threat at times, particularly away at QPR and at home to Fulham with those two very clear chances gifted to them in the late stages. Just because we haven't been punished for the mistakes it doesn't mean they aren't happening and pushing forward is always important.

Wise to do it now before his price doubles. Bit concerned if we're without him and Ba for January though but getting him in is the main thing. -
Or it could be that some people think you should constantly improve on what you've got if that's possible? Not sure why anyone has a problem with upgrading a weak link in a good team like.
-
Ba's been dropping deep quite a bit to collect the ball, the only real change will be having players better suited to the roles, particularly when Santon is brought in too
-
if Pardew didnt see what's happening with Obertan yesterday, he's never going to. he's not atrocious, he just sticks out like a sore thumb in a midfield that is comfortable on the ball and rarely loses it. we need to be reducing the amount of players who cant keep the ball, give marveuax a chance.

When he sprayed the free kick out right towards the end of the game to make the most of a 2 on 2,that sort of awareness combined with ability is priceless. Unless you've got Craig Gardner. -
Only realising now that we have better players!
-
Once the crowd see him destroying teams, going past players like they're not there as he did against *everyone, there'll be a bit of leeway given in terms of losing the ball. edit - that's supposed to say Everton, hello Mr Freud
-
Bids will come in for him btw, just like bids will come in for cabaye,we're building something though,it'll take a lot to move them, just have to hope we pay em enough.
-
I was creased up when be halved modric and started shouting at Jonas as if to say 'look what you made me do!'
-
There was one point yesterday when Cabaye played the ball between two spurs players and Ben Arfa turned and ran straight at them, that's what's gonna be so good about having him in the team,as soon as he picks it up the opponents are on the back foot

some people will stop at nothing to acknowledge a good performance by our 'figures of hate' another shocking statement. imo, Santon showed more positive qualities in 15 mins than Simpson did in 75. I saw it, with my own eyes, it happened, imo I completely agree with you DrV, I thought the Santon switch was an astute decision at the time (Bale looked to be getting more space against a flagging/stretched Simpson) and Santon is not exactly short of attacking flair. My post to HowK was about his steadfast refusal to acknowledge Shola's contribution, crediting the change in performance solely to Ben Arfa (and Santon) instead...because they're 'cool' players Fair do's man,Shola was fucking unreal like -
Agree with this,I had imagined 4-2-3-1 working, but we're doing so well I don't think the formation needs changing
