I'm not sure we would have a choice if someone made an offer of £5.5m - Its a clause in his contract. However I'd hope he would turn down a move considering we've been loyal to him and are not safe from the drop.
-
Barton scores goals. Parker has nicked a few too? Without being on penalties...I do think they are pretty similar players (Altho, being biased I obviously think Barton is better)
-
If Scott Parker isn't right for you, I don't see why Joey Barton would be. Strange one. PS: Putting a clause in his contract was stupid, he's worth more than that now people can see he knows where the goal is - and there is no way we can afford to lose him considering how shite most of our have been.

Out of all the names listed there - And there are some very ropey ones - I would have to vote for Cannavaro and perhaps Pirlo. One person not listed, who I probably would have voted for is Gallas. He's been excellent domestically for years but I thought he had a really good World Cup too.
-
Best thing about it was, Chelsea were all over them at the start - His antics woke the crowd up and ever since they're in a game. It's his own damn fault they're losing! He is a bit of a tard...really makes it hard for me to support them in the title race :thbdwn:

I like Newcastle as a club but its not a commonly held view here. I think a lot of angst comes from the way the club is presented in the media, which is a bit silly really. Sheperd constanlty embrassases himself with some rediculous statements (Didn't he claim Newcastle was the 8th biggest job in the world or something like that?), You seemed to get labled as bestest most loyal fans in the world and whatnot - "If any club deserves a trohpy, its them". I don't agree with a lt of the stuff that is said about the club but I don't see why I should that against John Q Geordie, it just makes me think whoever is on the telly/radio/paper/etc is a bit of a numpty.

 this thread is gold! FWIW, no-one here is laughing any more. The comedy has been replaced by an ammount of suprise/anger that he is actually performing, although no-one regrets the sale or wants his back as he was never going to do anything here. I think the main reason he is doing a lot better than expected is probably Solano - We've never had a player who comes close to his crossing ability but he is capable of putting it on Sibierski's head on a regular enough basis for him to nick the odd goal. I still think his heading ability is overrated but theres a big difference between throwing his 50p head at a vicious Solano cross than competing for anything SWP had to offer (He couldn't cross for shit). I think Martins makes a big difference too, if there was no pace in the attack defenses would push up and he'd never get near the goal - Against us with the injured Ameobi he did absolutely nothing (Which was a relief). I know I slated him when he signed - I'm big enough to take any stick you want to throw at me for his performances but I'm not fickle enough of him to change my own opinion of him. Yous got a little insight into my thinking the other night - 2 headers, one from a couple of yards onto the crossbar, another just before they scored(?) straight at the keeper - If only eh? I saw far, far too much of that in his City days.

Who Will Become Our Next Great Home Produced Defender
Dr Spectrum replied to Delima's topic in Football
I don't get the Taylor hype myself. As far as I'm concerned, the thing with young, inexperienced players is that you put them in the team, they make mistakes, the learn from their mistakes, and become better players. If they don't learn from their mistakes, and keep on making them it makes me think that their learning curve is going to be pretty short. And Taylor, keeps on giving away stupid fouls and picking up stupid bookings. The 2nd yellow he got for the U21s against Germany was absolutely criminal - Diving in from behind 40 or 50 yards from goal when he's already on a yellow? Good grief. He's been around a little while now, and if he hasn't got it in his head that making a decision like that is probably not the thing to do I can't see him picking up much nous in his career and fulfulling his potential. As for Ramage, not sure why so many people seem to have such a downer on him. I think he has looked pretty comfortable in the european games at centre back. PS: Steve Howey! -
No van Nistelrooy either - Carried their attack for years but their relationship ended badly, as it did with Stam and Beckham - The bitter old cunt! And only 1 of the 6 players he broke the transfer record for make the list...

Marks for "Effort"? What is this, school sports day?? England - 0 out of 10 for being shite more like! That is such an ace quote... I like Barton as a player and would lke to see him get a chance to replace Hargreaves short term...I don't think he's good enough to be a starting XI player but I think he has enough quality on top of the legs and the heart to be a good backup player - I think he's a much more rounded player than Carrick and could do a good job for us. Not too impressed with a lot of the other names listed there tho. Robinson - Worst established England #1 in my memory, definetly needs the boot Barry - Don't rate him going backwards, don't think he's agile enough to deal with someone running at him to play LB, not quick enough to play LW Agbonlahor - Not got enough in his locker aside from pace yet, Needs more time before being considered Cattermole - Eh?? Players not mentioned; I think Ashley Young deserves consideration.

If you could sign any player from another premiership side who would it be??
Dr Spectrum replied to a topic in Football
Micah Richards? I rate him as highly as anyone but if you're looking for a magic wand signing wouldn't you want someone a little more...influential? Fair enough if you think that RB is your weakest position given that Carr is complete shite, but surely out of all the players available you would go for someone that would make a bigger difference than stopping the opposition LW taking the piss? blueconfused.gif -
Pardew Gone, Curbishley In (3pm press conference)
Dr Spectrum replied to Crumpy Gunt's topic in Football
Could well be... Altho we had just been relegated I remember we sacked Royle and appointed Keegan very quickly too - 2 or 3 days - I think we had sounded Keggy out before giving Royle the boot - But I think you'll have to go a long way to beat this unless you count promotions from #2 after the boss goes... Can't fault the Icelander for being indecisive. I'm not sure its going to work tho, Curbs never came across to me as being anything more than an 'OK' manager. Not sure West Ham will be as forgiving to his faults (451, Marcus Bent, etc) as the non-fickle Charlton fans were (He'll have no "look where we were when he took over!" to fall back on). I also wonder if they'll do a traditional Charlton 2nd half of the season - They'll be proper fooked! -
Mark Hughes, a pathetic display of whinging...
Dr Spectrum replied to AyeDubbleYoo's topic in Football
Man Utd player in being complete twat shocker... I think its something in the water. Or Taggart's management. "Siege Mentality" they call it? I don't know what its like to be any premiership dressing room, let alone a losing one, but surely his players must look at him and think hes a bit cracked? They had Keith Hackett in for a "chat" because they weren't getting the desicions...I wonder if Morten Gamst Pedersen was sat there thinking "Ey up...maybe we're not getting desicions cos you're telling us to kick the fook out of everyone"? -
It's not classed as an assist after a dribble. Had N'Zogbia passed and Martins shot straight away, it'd be classed as an assist. This was simply a pass. Not sure about that...Paul Blobinson was credited with an assist for throwing the ball to Berbatov on the halfway line mental.gif

I think it's time they stopped blaming the Argies, isn't it? NEVER! West Ham's problem has never been the Argies. When they played Everton on TV the other week Tevez was their best player by a million miles (Granted Mascherano was shite), but Zamora, Etherington, Konchesky, Reo Coker et al were totally inneffective. These players just aren't good enough to coast through games, they need to be running their balls off if they want to do anything and it seems to me their effort levels are way down on last season. Classic case of getting caught up in the hype? I can't believe they would stop trying just because a couple of players signed. The players are the ones responsible for their position IMO. Then again, maybe they just got found out, some of them are pretty limited. Pardew has caused his own problems too...I'm a firm believer that if results aren't going right, you should be getting your best players on the pitch, and he keeps on picking Bobby Zamora (shite isn't the word) just cos he got a few lucky goals in the first few games? Should have been picking Tevez more I think. That said I'm glad he's gone. He really rubs me up the wrong way. I don't understand how someone who has achieved so little can act like such a billy big bollox. -
Surely that's not the cut off? Anything under 21 imo should be classed as young. According to Wikipedia, its "given annually to the British sportsperson below 17 years of age who has made the most substantative contribution to sport in that year."
-
Reckon that your Micah Richards (is that his name? not quite sure, tbh) would be more worthy of that award I think he's too old for it. And even if he wasn't, I'm not sure the BBC would want him interviewed live on a sunday night again any time soon.

I don't think I could name another Sportsman aged 17 or under... I think he's won it by default.
-
What has happened to Shearer? Yesterday he seemed to be "Martins was shite (until Wednesday), never a red card, Taylor goal was handball/offside....". Isn't he supposed to be biased?

Uh-huh. There are a lot of things I can criticise Pearce for - Stupid long ball tactics, complete inability to forge a style of play that gets anything out of his 2 best players (technically) Samaras and Ireland, signing Paul Dickov, tonguing Taggart's arse the day the day before the derby, playing 451 with a no pace striker....I could go on (For far longer than I would like). ...BUT! you can't slate his standards and man management skills. Thatcher decapitated Mendes, since he came back hes been a right little angel. Richards threw a hissy fit when he got subbed, seen nothing like it since. I can virtually guarantee Corradi won't dive again. I think its probably Pearce's biggest plus and its a big plus for the game. It's a shame a lot of other managers aren't willing to notice when their players do anything wrong. How old is Ireland btw? Always thought he was a youngen but he looks about 40! From the scalp down he's 20.

worst chant in the history of football Have you ever heard "On the ball City" (Norwich)? I refuse to believe City til I die is a worse song than one that includes the line "Hurrah we've scored a goal".
-
They are shite. Jammy as fook, little deflections off crosses turning into tap ins. Lucky twats. We are ace. We just can't fucking run round the back. Carrick is shite. He couldn't tackle Geoff Boycott's mum. Their midfield is invisible when they don't have the ball. Isaksson is ace. Can see he is top class even after half a game. Ryan (City reject) Giggs is shite. Never got a kick off Richards. Stevie Ireland is ace. Graham Poll is a fucking rag twat. Rooney should have been booked twice but he can't get his cards out quickly enough when we breath without permission. (Corradi 2nd justified, shocking dive) Hatem Trabelsi is the best bosman signing of the summer. Staggered that they are top. So ordinary out of possesion. I am fucking gutted. Played so well but not got the breaks they have. I fucking hate these jammy cunts. CTID.

I remember watching this fixture a few years back. England won 5-0, one player scored one (From the Half-way line) and setup 3 others, before going on to become England's most capped youth international ever. His name was Lee Croft and I thought City had the new Zidane on their hands. Now he plays for Norwich. These kids have so far to go before they even become professionals, hardly any of them will make it to the premiership and I doubt any of them will play for England. I think its stupid that these games get put on TV when more senior England teams don't.
