It would be nice to see some goals from midfiled or at least the midfield working as a unit to move the ball upfront and causing confusion between the oppositions defence and midfielders. Even switch the two wingers over (like Solano and Robert used to do) so that when they are running towards goal and cutting in, the favored foot to hit the ball is the one with the most effect. But it isnt just from attacking when the balls in play, I still cant believe we didnt manage to score at least one free kick in the whole of last season.

For me it has to be obrien scoring against the mackems at the mackems - surprised it hasnt already been posted. Either that or shearer with his arms aloft and the scoreboard behind after he scored his last ever toon goal at the stadium of shite last season. The testimonial photos of the scarf waving always looks good too.

The best part of a pretty shite trip to holland (sorry for the delay, only back at computer now). In my eyes, Martins was a replacement for Owen and therefore they were never designed to play together. We need 1 maybe 2 tall forwards in the window because we'll suffer in set pieces / or the the counter attack afterwards (defense isnt really that tall/quick either). I don't think Owen will ever get anywhere near he was even when he joined Newcastle, nevermind what he was at Liverpool. But theres always hope.

This is a must win game so we need 2 outright strikers and a midfield that isnt afriad to push up and support them. Counter-attacking is also a possibility but it depends on the starting line up (the wingers must attack). My team would be: Given Solano Tails Bramble Ramage Milner Parker Emre Luque Dyer Martins Luque is included because the Zog had an absolute nightmare on thursday night and the fact that if we play him, he is seen on tv therefore increasing his chances of gettin out of NUFC (or eventually proving us wrong + staying). And Carr doesnt start! If we play like we did the other night, portsmouth will go for the draw and get a flucky goal - its happenend too many times before. Positive thinking and a good work effort and we shouldnt come away disappointed.

he is squad player and therefore not one of the immediate strikers that will appear on the team sheet. 1. martins and shola are the main duo 2. milner on standby sub 3. then sibierski / rossi whenever a replacement is needed due to injury 4. luque and 'attacking' midfielders come next - owen wont feature for toon again however, the main thing that is annoying me is the fact that shearer announced his retirement over 2 years ago and in that time we have only found replacements for bellamy (in martins and owen). despite looking abroad for up and coming or experienced stars, we have found no-one and are using shola / sibierski (not premiership players) to help knock balls on to their playing partners. its like im back amongst the souness era! help im sick of defending toon and making excuses for shear stupidity but I will go on - geordie till i die

Luque had a bad game last night but he did show some promising runs and intelligent play that the rest of the team didnt understand. He started well but soon disappeared. Milner (his partner in crime) was playing the exact same game and only had a decent game because he drifted outwide and took over duffs role. If he stayed up front with luque then it would mean we werent just playing a lone striker. AND for those who said luque didnt suceed in his strikers role, did milner score?! Yes a bad game but I feel along with Martins, the intelligent play will be seen and the opposition will be baffled - please just one more chance, a proper chance aka a new start!

If only MOTD or football first showed his goal - im yet to see it again! I just feel sorry for the people who werent at the match and didnt get to see his goal or THAT cross.

what has happened to 'we need BIG names at St James Park?', all the names i am hearing now are average players who play average football - what we need is some players that have something different about them because the opposition hate that and that is when goals will be scored. IMO we have to keep luque because he is a bigger name and that will help when attracting new players, espcially foreign ones. although emre hasnt really done anything in the second half of the season i say keep him too because he can run and scare defenders. please keep albert FS!
