I thought so yeah, so did the majority watching it tbf it's hard to say when a player is at full speed and doing step overs, doesn't take much to be knocked off balance.
-
And probably to add injury to insult.
-
There was clear contact, Burn's face said it all to be honest. He went over theatrically but that's modern football.
-
Probably not a pen but it's difficult to complain when they had a stonewaller ten minutes ago.
-
Arguably one of the most important positions on the pitch in modern football and we have the least dynamic pair in the league at the moment. Both have been great for us over the years but it's little wonder we're struggling.
-
Not convinced Isak would help, we aren't creating anything. He'd be as much a passenger as Woltemade, just like he was towards the end of last season.
-
Maybe but if he's committed attacking it he has to do better. Not the first time Sven has looked iffy aerially this season.
-
Pope taking all the pelters but what the fuck was Botman doing too? Terrible header.
-
Could say the same for most of our players tbh.

This will be a tough game, but we need to scrap out a win just to stay in touch with that pack of teams above us. Obviously we aren't going to be relegated but you still don't want to be in that cluster of teams that are in touching distance of the bottom three, just takes a couple of key injuries or a few more dodgy results and all of a sudden we could find ourselves looking over our shoulders. Just get the three points tomorrow and let's kick start our season.

It's no fluke that teams keep looking shit against them like, they're organised and hard to play against.

Nothing to do with the transfer fee for me, my problem is that he doesn't seem to fit the profile that we needed at all. We really didn't need another pace merchant on the wing, we needed someone with a bit guile. The fact that he isn't even using his pace effectively so far is making the signing look worse.
-
Doesn't have the belief to run at his full back at the moment, which is a concern when that's his entire game.

Good win, big 3 points, and the champions league table is looking nice. A lot of work to do though. The same concerning elements to our performances are consistently present, mainly the wingers being so out of sorts and the entire team being sloppy on the ball at times. It's not unfair to say a team without 9 absentees would've probably punished us more at times tonight, in the first half especially. Hopefully a platform to build off but we do need to be a lot better in the coming weeks, I'm sure Howe will have the same assessment too.

They already fucked up by getting rid of O Fortuna. This is just doubling down.

I was definitely sick as fuck watching it

I can forgive any winger if they're trying to do the right things and it isn't coming off, hence I'll always back Barnes even when it's not working for him. The frustration for me with Gordon is that he isn't doing those things (at least not in the league); he rarely beats his man on the outside, rarely whips in a good cross, rarely gets into good scoring positions, rarely makes good runs beyond Woltemade, and is pretty half arsed in his defensive work at the moment too. He just seems to try to cut inside constantly and lose it doing basically nothing. It can't be a confidence thing as he's doing the right things in Europe and in the big Premier League matches. For me, it's an application thing and for that I just can't get behind him at the moment.

He's looked fine in our colours, though. Hard to judge him on Southampton, and I remember Arsenal fans were surprised when he was dropped for Raya originally, even if it ended up being the correct decision ultimately.

I tend not to read opinions to closely on here during the close season, just going off my own thoughts and people I work with generally. But for me, I felt Targett should leave, and once we let Targett leave, I assumed he'd be replaced with a younger talent. Burn at left back was a failed experiment two years ago. He can't be your only backup who isn't meant to be starting on the other flank, I had this conversation to death on here two years ago so it's not like I'm suddenly piling on him or our recruitment team today.
-
He's definitely become more prone to punching recently, I remember him being fairly safe with catches in his first season or so, so I almost wonder if it's either an instruction or something that has been coached into him. Agree with the comment above about the possibility of Ramsdale improving us as a team. Pope is a great shot stopper but he's also a core part of the network of terrible ball retainers that we have across the pitch that often leads to those shots coming at him in the first place. We also play ourselves into trouble at times by seemingly refusing to pass to him unless it's a last resort. I'm on the fence about it as I do like Pope and feel we're more solid with him there generally.

We only had so much to do in the summer because we left ourselves with so much to do in the summer to be fair, there's only the Isak situation that came as a surprise, surely we've all seen full back cover as a priority position alongside right wing and replacing Wilson ever since last time Burn was starting there (when our form was awful too)? He's going to have the odd good game there, and I'm not sure a passive and poor Spurs team is an adequate game to judge off anyway, but the issue is the wider impact on the team that him being in that position has. Yeah he'll win the odd hero challenge and sometimes mark his man out the game entirely, but we lose so much going the other way and our defensive line frequently ends up 10 yards deeper than it needs to be. This was the same issue two years ago and was only solved when Tino went to LB due to Botman being injured. Again, not a criticism of Burn, but our first choice right back shouldn't be our only cover at left back that isn't a 6 foot 6 centre half if we want to compete on all fronts. I genuinely can't imagine any other team in the top half of the league (and beyond to be honest) playing a player of Dan Burn's profile at left back purely because one right back and one left back was injured.
