  1. I'd imagine so since he has managed an international team before. He hasn't but is doing a shor cut course in Isreal but has been skipping lessons and has been threatened with getting chucked off the course (according to the press)
  2. It was but it was done because he went in the huff with the then pontins league who refused to let clubs play their reserve games away from the club's ground. Where are the majority of those games played now? Keegan spitting the dummy out set the ball rolling and when Fergie got involved the premier league re-vamped it's reserve strategy.

He reminds me more of Maldini. that's offensive to say the least
  4. has pace and happy to play up there on his own, but would be very dependent on price for me and as Spurs paid at least twice what he was worth I think their ego would demand most of it back
  5. That's from an eleven year old's creative writing class surely Thanks for typing it as it gave me a laugh and stopped me wasting 42p
  6. I agree. It's f****** cheating. Keane does it all the time. I was always under the impression that it was a 'clean' run up and strike at goal. As i said, it always used to be but seems to be ignored. John Aldridge started it. I was just going to mention Aldridge when I saw your next post. Did they go through ashort period of banning him from doing this ? I think there was much talk about it, but don't know if it actually happened. Talking of cheating, see also the tendency of some keepers to be about 6 feet off their line when the kick is taken. These are simple rules which seem to get ignored an awful lot nowadays. There was a season approx 1990 - 91 that pens were being re-taken if the player dummied in his run up but it (the ban) seemed to disappear a couple of seasons later like a lot of clamp downs ala keepers and six seconds etc.
  7. Strong agreement with this but just to be picky Nigel Pearson and Steve Round are a lot higher in the pecking order than Terry Mac but we may need more intelligence than them as well
  8. I agree with a lot of this but there is a lot more intensity surrounding Newcastle than Bolton, which causes the big club claims etc and does increase pressure on players and staff ..... and to be honest we're great at over top reactions so stuff
  9. Total agreement about Dyer but Solano has been behind a lot of good play recently and they are missing him whilst injured at the minute
  10. Post of the year for me, first time I've laughed out loud in the office for ages

they had some do earlier this week (at least management and physio staff not sure about players) and they had a magican on and he managed to swap everyones watches without anyone knowing. Apparently some junior physio dogs body type ended up with Big Sam's very expensive Rolex
  12. because he's won so much in his football career Fair enough it was a flippent comment but ... I said in my original post that he does deserve time but I don't really want to watch crap/old players and how can you seriously think that a man who has managed Bolton will spend transfer budget better than a man who has maanaged some of the biggest and best clubs in Europe? and he prolonged the careers of several aging players at Milan and Juventus and look at the improvements in Beckham's form towards the end of last season.
  13. I agree with a lot of this topic and the general sentiment on the huge post that started it. However the Liverpool was quite frankly a fucking disgrace. St James' Park is our home and you let teams the calibre of Liverpool free reign in your home, it's like inviting someone into your home and ignoring the fact they've pissed all over the carpet. Football like all sport has to be played in the front front for at least parts of the game, granted tactics, plans etc can help bridge the talent gap but you still need to get on the front front at certain times especially at home. After 15 minutes against Liverpool they new we coudn't hurt them so they pushed more men further knowing a goal would come. How do you think Hatton will do next weekend if he starts out trying to stay in the fight and only considers throwing punches in the second half of the fight? I've said in a few threads I agree that he should be given time especially as I don't think there's too much choice in his replacement and the club will look stupid in the nation's eyes again. However he and the team has to show something, anything really. Last Saturday they did and hopefully tonight they show more. Presently I'm just glad Derby, Smoggies et al are the real shite in the league but maybe it's just because the Liverpool game flatten me so much. It was even worse than the Sheff Utd game last season but at least that sparked some improvement for a short while anyway. Crikey this is the thread for big posts, I've never typed so much so uni and that was years ago :-)
  14. voted yes but it's Northumberland really although I do work in Newcastle, skiving today though in preparation for tonight
  15. because he's won so much in his football career
  16. Won Champions League and countless Serie A titles in a long spell at Milan, went to Real Madrid won La Liga came back to Serie A and won it with both Roma then Juventus before going back to Real Madrid and winning La Liga again both titles in Spain came in first and only season each time but Real are even more fickle than us re managers. Like most I think Sam deserves time but have a few doubts, I liked the comparison with Sir Bobby Robson in a different topic. However again like most if he (Capello) was interested than it's a no brainer he's up there with Sir Alex, Wenger and Jose
  17. I'm assuming you mean the Opus Man Utd brought one out last season I think and Arsenal have just done one as well. They chart the whole history of the club with photos and the Man U was going for between 3 & 5 grand (ish) and it was massive

    Martins (again)

Wrong in so many ways More available yes better value probably but a better player not even close

    Martins (again)

Of that often quoted 17 goals there were alot against poor sides I'm shocked at this thread he was canny in the first half and took his goal very very well but was poor in the second as was the team but he misplaced several easy passes in the second half and his touch was shocking
  20. why? it was Robson that ripped them off
  21. ToonMonty

    New defenders?

Campbell is or has had an operation on his achillies that may put him out for the start of the season and at his age an achillies injury could be very serious.
  22. The challenge happen just in front of my seat and if the referee had our view of it Neville would've had a definite yellow and maybe a red card he was late and jumped in over the ball directly onto Milner's ankle. Milner had the beating of Neville all night and a stronger referee would've booked both Scholes and Neville long before he did.
