  1. Shelvey can't have too many complaints. A couple of very good homes games, one average home game and 3 poor away games don't exactly scream out 'call up'. Agree on the Drinkwater MoM award, it was Kante by a million miles.
  2. Wycombe were his last club. Ah fair enough. I totally missed that. Thanks. Edit - can you think of anyone else? Peter Garland Paul Bodin Was Bodin the left back signed by KK?

I've said that for years mate - Barca stitched him up too - moved him upstairs a few months after he showed loyalty to them for Van Gaal! Yeah - always remember that interview he did live on football focus where you could see he was almost conflicted between Barca and us. It was clear it was a tussle between doing what his heart was telling him (us) and his personal integrity/honouring his word. He was the undoubted man for the job after KK. Dalglish annihilated us. We needed someone to arrive with a small spanner for minor adjustment. That t*** turned up with a kango hammer. I distinctly remember watching that interview. I'd have only been 7 years old and I'd never heard of Bobby before, but it left an impression on me - and I always think back to it with a 'what if'. Remember the interview itself like it was yesterday. Such an honourable bloke. I think it might have been before a home game but can't be 100%.

  5. Thanks - never knew he played for them. I thought he'd came through the ranks at Charlton.
  6. Help me out here.........Players that have played for both NUFC and Wycombe Wanderers over the last 20-25 years? I thought of: - Williamson - Saylor (on loan) - Guppy Any more?

The problem was, he burnt the house down, leaving only the foundations. And it wasn't a poxy bedsit, it was a luxury mansion .
  9. Exactly what I've been saying this week. Comparing that atmosphere on Monday night to the one we used to enjoy when we were flying high under KK was chalk and cheese. We used to blow sides away before they'd kicked a ball when our place was rocking, which it inevitably was. Even accounting for the nerves, it did sound very pedestrian.
  10. If we were sitting in mid-table, safe, I'd almost certainly give him a month out to recover and go again, looking finish the season on a high. He looked whacked against Leicester in the second half.

My tune won't change. SMc was a minor symptom of the disease this club is fighting and, whether we're relegated or not, he'll never be the sole reason we're down. KD had a far more damaging effect on NUFC given the respective circumstances. Aye so damaging in fact that we were finishing and 4th and 3rd a few seasons later. Including players like Solano, Speed, Shay and Dabizas that he signed, by the way. Dalglish's team were aging and on the way down. He had one bad season in which we finished 13th, beat Barcelona and reached a cup final. McClaren has quite possibly gotten us relegated with his cowardice and ineptitude. Spectacular lack of recognition of the fact that we're virtually two completely different football clubs in the interim period between KD & SMc managing the first team. The club KD was working for wanted to compete, wanted to win things, was entirely set up for success etc. You've noted four players he signed (Dabiza's is questionable btw, but you can claim him as a good signing if you like), I can name many more, without even thinking about it, who were either utter toss, finished or very clearly signed using a 'jobs for the boys' policy: Hamilton Serrant Paul Dalglish (wonder what attracted him to this young superstar?) Andersson Perez Guivarch Rush Barnes Pearce Pinas There was discussion at the time of needing to bolster the squad. Not sure how much 'bolstering' we'd have needed if he hadn't jettisoned Beresford, Tino, Clark, Ginola, Elliott etc. Not to mention that fucking mumbling he'd do after every game in front of the camera's. He was a disaster of an appointment.
  13. Agree with this. I think his first season in english football is catching up with him.
  14. Small bit of good news for us though......
  15. No, we signed him in the summer of 2011. Rafa left Liverpool in the summer of 2010. Thanks. So, it's conceivable that he was someone they'd been after during Rafa's reign? I don't really see where he'd fit in with a Rafa team as he tends to like hard working players and Marveaux gained a bit of a reputation for being lazy under Pardew. That said, I always thought we should have used him more off the bench. I can't say I ever thought he was lazy. He'd often fail to influence a game but most people would struggle to do that from midfield in a AP side, so I'd forgive him that. Wonder if he might get a bit more game time.......... It's certainly only a positive that we can spring a couple of wildcards on opposition at this stage of the season. I actually think he's one of those who really does have quality end product. Very decent passer and crosser, and he can finish. The question mark has to be his attitude. Yeah. Maybe. He's not exactly had much luck. He wasn't 100% fit when he arrived and then the poor bloke had to deal with; - Treatment overseen by Doctor Death - Pardew as his manager - Carver as his manager - SMc as his manager - Never getting a run of games. He may have a questionable attitude but my point is that if Rafa fancied him at Liverpool then there's a chance Marveaux would have known about it before (I guess they must have been watching him during Rafa's time, knowing his contract would be up) so, if he feels wanted, then perhaps he might be more involved.

You hate Dalglish more than McClaren? That's just plain fucking weird. We finished 2nd, played CL football and reached Wembley under the former. Under the latter we spent virtually an entire season in the bottom 3. yeah - it's only weird if you take their relevant start points completely out of context though. SMc inherited a squad with major problems, an unambitious board and a club tarred by Alan Pardew's filthy stain and players only here as a stepping stone. KD's situation couldn't have been more different. All we needed was better organisation at the back and we'd have been flying. He smashed KK's legacy and for that I've always hated him. I attended many of those games watching some of the absolute toss he signed, wondering quite how he could dismantle such a fantastic side and, at the same time, find so many jobs for the boys. I've heard lots of mitigation over the years (KK scapped the reserve team, PLC etc etc) but none of it is sufficient for the clusterfuck of a job he did imho. Edit - What Ahmed said, more succinctly.

  21. Dalglish Ah. Fair enough How long had Rafa been away when KD turned up? i.e: Do we think he was on Rafa's watch list originally?
  22. I've been at a ten for a long while. The Rafa appointment is fantastic but I fear it's 6 games too late. I'm at a 9.5 now but desperately hoping for a Rafa Revolution starting tonight.
  23. When we beat Liverpool to his signature a few years ago, was Rafa their manager?
