A couple of pointless observations around this whole clusterfuck;- 1) If Ashley had somehow managed to wangle us a seat at the table, I don't think he'd have pulled out/buckled like the others have. 2) If Sky were engaged by the ESL folks, this wouldn't have had anywhere near the reaction nor coverage it's had. That's probably the ESL's number one fuck up, not engaging the key media ahead of announcing. If they'd swung a deal in there for Sky to get it launched, they could've easily then shipped Sky out and brought in Amazon or whomever. Make no mistake, as well as Neville/Carragher etc have spoken, they've been put out like performing monkeys by Sky to protect their overall interests. The media self-interest killed this notion. Not the fans.

Excellent post this. For me, if you remove Ashley then you remove the biggest problem. That's what any NUFC group should be focused on. Imagine a world where someone like Pallotta buys the club, sells the 1% to the Trust and then proves to be an awful owner. What's the chances a genuine owner with good intentions THEN chooses to buy NUFC (with a vocal fans group allowed a seat on the Board) off him or buys a club without it? Commercially, I'd opt for the club without it because; a) The good 'PR uplift' has been lost. b) I'd not want to have forced engagement and would prefer to do it on my terms and not based upon those of my shonky predecessor. c) If I throw a ton of cash at the club and increase it's value, I'll only realise 99% of it. As for NUFC's value tumbling should we go down and then possibly go down again, then yes, we'd be worth much less but we'd also be far more likely to get a shithouse owner. IMHO, they should have engaged in a partnership with the Staveley consortium and negotiated a 1% ownership BUT ONLY because of the additional pressure this would apply to the PL because of the recognition by the Saudi's of the supporters role. I can see a use for it in those circumstances, otherwise, I don't really get it.

That Athletic podcast is nothing short of a total shitshow. It massively lets down the written element of the brand. The bloke hosting it is painful, their 'banter' is fucking juvenile and the whole new structure of it is so bad I normally just listen to the first segment where they talka bout the latest game and then fuck it off. You know, the segment where they systematically avoid ANY direct criticism of Bruce? Aye, thats the one. I used to think GC was the tits when he at the Times but he's massively gone down in my estimation since he moved over. What is it they say about not meeting your heroes? The less said about Waugh the better, they were previously massively demeaning to him with the 'Private Waffles' bullshit and he needs to slow the fuck down when he's on that podcast. The whole thing needs an overhaul imho. Personally, think they should shitcan the podcast for the time being, find a new host and then focus it around current events and giving some actual fucking opinion and not dancing around the issues and that's where my biggest disappointment in Caulkin has come from; he's completely avoided digging Bruce out for fear of his friendship but, in actual fact, lost a tonne of credibility in the meantime. He's no longer in the top 3 NUFC writers for me whereas previously he was in a league of his own at one point way back when. He's more Shelvey than Messi now.
