from what I can remember in his Porto and Chelsea days, he and his team were quite revolutionary in amount of data gathered about opposition teams and how to counter them. Others caught up with this eventually and he hasn't been able to innovate to get ahead of the pack since.

Well, the problem is like...what can they do? Terminate it for breach of contract? No player is going to accept a potentially bankrupting penalty in the contract, ever. Teams already have the opportunity to withhold wages in these cases.

Disregarding what Man Utd paid for him, that's quite a high risk commitment from Napoli.

Have a feeling he'll turn out a pretty decent player and will climb the ladder to a bigger club eventually. Czech league is a decent level, and he'll be playing conference league this season too without too much pressure on his shoulders. Good luck to the lad.

Bayern has 13 players on higher wages than Woltemade will be on here, we have 4. 3-4 of their players earn 2x our highest earners.. How on earth can you claim they wouldn't have offered a competitive or better wage?

I don't think assessing fairness when it comes to top level football is possible to gauge. He definitely had a good case to get a higher salary here, and would we have withdrawn from negotiations if he wouldn't budge on say £160k considering the position we were in? Good point regarding room for future increases and not coming in immediately on higher wages than current top earners.

Record fee signing though. Not that I'm complaining, just expected a bit more.
