Money due from FIFA from the World Cup; Newcastle United: $910,000 Eddie Howe waved goodbye to five of his squad last month, including three England players. Callum Wilson brings in the maximum return of $280,000 but Kieran Trippier and Nick Pope are only eligible for reduced compensation after arriving in 2022. About $230,000 for them both. Fabian Schar’s time away with Switzerland is worth $220,000 but Bruno Guimaraes, only signed in January, will be worth in the region of $140,000. There will also be a small amount back — roughly $40,000 — on DeAndre Yedlin, part of the U.S. squad, despite his exit to Galatasaray in February 2021.

Sweet Jesus - just looked at the last few pages - incredible that but no surprise from him as he’s one of the bitterest on there!

They’re bitter as hell and it’s only going to get worse! They wildly celebrated in July 2020 when PIF pulled out of buying us yet they’ve bizarrely been fewman rights activists since 8th October 2021! I generally would love to get them in the Cup as we would absolutely obliterate them!

Criminally underused but that’s fine by me as he’s fresh for us! Absolute joke how he barely played!

The first is my favourite ever celebration and the second doesn’t get the credit it deserves - unreal touch, pace and finish!

About time! https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/world-cup/jack-grealish-england-manchester-city-b2237214.html “I messaged Matt Targett because I’m close with him from Villa and I said to him ‘can you message him for me and say to him that I apologise, I obviously didn’t mean it’. When I look back on that, that was just one thing that was stupid of me to say it. I shouldn’t have said it. I didn’t realise it was going to go out. I didn’t realise it was a video to go out, I thought it was just private. But even in private I shouldn’t have said it because he’s a fellow professional. I’m actually buzzing for him, I’ve had a lot of stick off the Newcastle fans and rightly so. At the end of the day, they are backing their player which I fully understand. He seems like the most harmless, nice guy, so fair play, I’m buzzing for him.” Targett merely responded ‘Jack, he’s a lovely kid and he’s harmless and doesn’t really speak a lot of English. He won’t really be bothered.’

The Athletic: Can we ask you a question or two about shithousing, please? Burn: (laughs) “Yeah.” TA: The last five minutes felt like violent, beautiful poetry and the team has done that on a few occasions this season. It’s that thing about knowing how to win a game and doing everything it takes to win, isn’t it? DB: “I think that started from when I came, really. We were tough to beat last season. We weren’t a soft touch. Teams were having to work really hard to get through us and it’s the same now. Once we gain the lead, we’re confident. We don’t panic, even when we’re under pressure and yeah, those little bits we do… it was great seeing people flying into tackles and hearing the crowd roar, that sort of stuff.” TA: The one defeat this season was at Liverpool, but it felt like an important statement in some ways, the way you irritated Anfield and got people wound up. It feels like the first time in a long time that Newcastle are going to places like that and having that attitude. DB: “It was something the gaffer talked about at the start of the season. Our mentality is ‘it’s us against the world’. We feed off that. If we’ve got to win ugly, we’ll win ugly and be tough to beat. That sole defeat was an absolute sickener but to go there and play the way we did showed great character.” TA: That mentality has always been part of the city’s, the north east’s identity, hasn’t it? That we’re left to fend for ourselves, so we stick up for ourselves. That’s our history. DB: “Definitely. Football is different up here. It’s a working-class city and people want players to work hard. When I was sat up in the stand, that’s what I wanted. If the players worked hard and got beat, you would accept it. That’s our attitude in every single game — we’ll go out and leave it all on the pitch.”
