James Maddison (now playing for Tottenham Hotspur)

wouldn’t be surprised if there is some speculative clauses in there about CL progression etc, allows teams to save face by announcing “a fee that could rise to £60m” -

That’s fair I had just always seen the Gerrard appointment and the Coutinho purchase as inextricably linked as he was a Liverpool old boy and he wouldn’t have signed if not for the Gerrard factor. Felt like a very public backing of him despite him playing in a position where you already had a decent starter in Buendia. Obviously Coutinho is a quality player on his day. -
They’d largely be in the same boat as they are now in terms of player spend. Any takeover doesn’t magically alter revenue, sales or the players already at the club. They would perhaps fix the wreck that is Old Trafford mind.

I always got the feeling that he was the primary driver of the Gerrard appointment and Coutinho deal given his Liverpool links - you think that’s ultimately what he’s paid the price for? -

I tend to think Fab and Ornstein and Athletic in general are the favoured source of a lot of clubs as they both tend to just present news or deals without journalistic spin or hyperbole. -
They aren’t in a Everton/Leicester situation where they are paralysed from making moves just that they have an overhaul to complete. Plus they may have players they could sell but they can’t shred their squad depth esp being back in the CL. How much will they get for Elanga, Van de Beek and Maguire assuming they can find buyers. The second two probably have exorbitant wages that will put off most buyers. Martial is a good player but is made of glass and entering the last year of his contract. Sort explains where the McTominey links have been coming from, he looks like one of their more saleable assets.

They very much do, highest net spenders in the last decade yet in the same time Chelsea have made more than half a billion more in sales. They’ve spunked a lot of money on a lot of shit that they’ve lost for nowt, also the wages for Casemiro et al will be very high. Athletic reporting their budget (even in event of a takeover) will be around £100m to not fall foul of the rules. For a squad that needs some serious money spent on it that won’t go far.

re: Maguire String them along until the end of the window then say nah your alright on deadline day

Main risk with a free transfer is the inflated wages, Juve simply couldn’t shift Aaron Ramsay until the end of his contract as his wages were well over market value. Tielemans Is talented but the fact he chose to dial it in for pretty much the full season for Leicester would worry me. Although if anyone can get a tune out of him Emery probably can. He feels a bit of a Shelvey type, borderline unplayable on his day but if times get tough you don’t necessarily want him in the trenches.

That the adult sizes? not sure why grown men would buy the full kit in all honesty

Fender clearly gonna be wearing one tonight I reckon

The local press were pretty reliable under Ashley but now they clearly no longer get briefed by the club. Only way to get clicks for them now is to post random speculative information like we’ve seen from Hope and Edwards in the past day. Like with Isak we’ll probably see a number of other clubs journalists report a deal as imminent all at once then the locals will report second hand.

No one knows anything man

I think this talk do 50m valuations on these players is just a negotiation tactic, we’ll increase our off any they’ll lower their valuation.
-
We talking about Alcaraz here?
-
Edwards has just seen that transfer fever is just below fever pitch and has decided to stir the pot. He knows nowt man. Just speculate then spin as he always does.

He could do pretty well with them but that might equate to 6th or 7th and I’m not sure that would be seen as a success. -
I agree, although I think it may become English dominated to the point it may lose some lustre. Villa or Juve should win it next year, Juve only in due to their points deduction. Typically the English team will be the favourite for every game they play including the final. 7th in the Prem Will pretty much always be better than the respective side in the other league. Good for West Ham to win it early!

Just switched the coverage on and absolutely delighted to see no Rio Ferdinand. Great start. (watch him be on comms)

If the Qataris are clearing the debt and updating the stadium the total cost to them could be much higher? As said before it costs them nothing and pays them a handsome return. They’ve set a price that is basically unrealistic to anyone, even a Petrostate which is quite and achievement
