I generally give a new player a season's grace, however when they carry their first seasons performance into the next then IMO it's not form or adapting that's the reason for their level of performance, it's their standard. That said, we have an utterly toxic setup totally unaccommodating to adapting players.

I'm at the stage now where I'm so disinterested in our performance that I'm not noticing the positive things he's doing in the unthreatening areas. I'm sure they're there from time to time but I'm just seeing him fail in attacking positions.

Imagine the naivety of just assuming he'd be better than Colback.

I actually think there was enough distance and time for Gomez to know what he was doing, and to also counter his movement.

I don't personally want ASM playing with that much defensive responsibility, however he is at his best picking the ball up in a relatively deep position, driving a counter attack. He's first name on the team sheet and equally not suited to a 5 at the back formation. Bit of a conundrum since we appear better with a 5 man defence.

Nice to see such a positive assessment of our performance, some of which I agree with, but Lewis must have had some second half (I missed it) if that was his best performance for us. I thought he was very poor in the first half.

It's all too easy to forget how important Almiron is when ASM is on top form.

Our tempo is so much better when Almiron is around the ball.

Lewis needs a spell on the bench, his form is dipping. Any decent club would manage a young players exposure.

ASM should have scored really, but the keeper did well to stay up.

ASM is completely ineffective in this position.

I have noticed that too however in his defence, a fair percentage of the time he has no one in front of him in any sort of useful position. Manquillo is the worst for taking the ball forward only to play it backwards IMO.

He was sitting pretty high up a lot of the time yesterday which isn't ideal when one of his key strengths is carrying the ball forward at pace. It's worth trying him in a free role I suppose, but not with his base position that high up.

Was it shit? It was quite smart IMO. Keeper should have saved it, same as for the Wolves goal. It was smart on our behalf in that Almiron had their entire wall and keeper positioned to receive a shot from him.

Murphy has looked far more like he has something to work with this season, than in his first season.
