I'm not saying this is a bad idea or anything, but won't it probably lead to the same or lower league position than we're getting now? I mean, Brighton are usually held up as a great example but they don't finish particularly high in the table and they're not really raising their level every season. They're more ticking over as a 'smart but not particularly successful' club. I'm not sure what the correct answer is but there's also a reason that selling your best players has historically been considered bad. Admittedly in a world without PSR, but you know what I'm saying.

Even if lose all three it’s fairly normal. We’re playing two better teams.
-
It was never, ever a possibility.

30m is like the going rate for any human footballer with legs, if they've played in the Premier League.
-
There’s sooooo many though.

The tone of our discussions is borderline embarrassing at the moment. Everything at other clubs is amazing and their transfers are class, every player we’ve sold should’ve been kept but every player we’ve kept should have been sold for PSR. A lad who never player for us is a criminal sale, Chris Wood is the new Drogba. Tonali was a bad signing, we should’ve bought someone from the Champ for half the money. Tino and Hall were a waste of money. RW was always the priority even though it obviously was also CB, CM and CF. When are we supposed to be happy? As you can tell it really winds me up

Exactly, we talk as if Newcastle United has some kind of responsibility to take Isak and Bruno to the Champions League every season or otherwise we’ve failed them. Shite, I love all our players but they could not have realistically expected progression any quicker than we’ve had.

Elliot Anderson (now playing for Nottingham Forest)

Both are fairly minor issues TBH. We just seem to have an obsession with everything that happens with other clubs or anyone that does well anywhere else. It was quite likely that Anderson was never going to play regularly for us. -

Decent talent. -
Is this is a spoof?
-
Exactly the same. I don’t think he’d be starting for Forest if Awoniyi could stay fit.

You’re a much better analyst than me if you’re not surprised that Wood is doing this well. I’m astounded That said, I backed us signing him so I never thought he was complete shit.

Stoke City?
-
Yeah, it might be more about doing what Gordon wants and looking after him as much as anything else.
-
You mean because we nearly breached PSR? Fair point yeah, but that's more an argument that we should've sold someone (or just spent less) I suppose.

I honestly think signing Barnes has triggered more criticism than if we’d signed nobody. It’s way over the top and it’s not even a big mistake We’re obsessed about it. I’m never going to criticise signing two brilliant young players, so have to agree to disagree on that one.
-
Do we want someone who’s just better than Miggy and Murphy, or we want an actually top signing?
-
We needed a whole new first team basically. We have one outstanding problem position now, it’s not too bad IMO.
-
You mean he knows we’ll miss out on Europe?
-
We’re not just looking to sign someone better than Miggy and Murphy like, imagine the reaction if that was the criteria.
-
I see not signing a RW as something that is a bit late rather than a massive error. Before we desperately needed a RW, we desperately needed a striker, a CB, fullbacks, two CMs etc etc. It’s only now that other problems are solved that RW gets a disproportionate amount of attention. It’s not like it was the priority from day one. A bit like striker with Wilson, Miggy entering the form of his life was actually a bit unfortunate for our plan. But that’s understandable, if you’ve managed to get two players playing incredibly well you might naturally move your attention to other positions.

Absolutely, great post.

There must be a different type of viewer and a big market though, no? Of course fans of individual clubs won’t care as much about the CL when they aren’t in it.
