Hard to judge anything based on 20-odd minutes in the first game of the season. Southamptons passing style makes them look good but I’m sure we knew that would happen and weren’t overly worried by it. Without the red we would’ve probably got a 2 or 3 goal win eventually.

He’s very good on the ball as well. Played one particularly great pass along the line to Isak which almost set us away.

Does anyone care about Bobby Clark? I guess to the extent of ‘ah, shame a young player left’. It’s hardly worth getting worked up about. -
Think they’re automated these days. Most of the time anyway.

You’d have to have some kind of screw loose to spend £100m on Wharton like, as much as I like him.

All of those players actually played for Newcastle TBF. -
Of course it wasn’t fair man, don’t get this at all.
-
I don’t think Schar meets that definition at all. He wasn’t using or attempting to use excessive force or brutality.
-
Schar didn't really fall into any trap though. He did almost nothing and got cheated by a cheat.
-
Completely, Schar didn’t do anything anywhere near warranting a red a card.
-
But 'moving a head' is not violent conduct, is it?
-
Good enough for me, someone get the Matey.
-
Exactly, if they're going to use video it's because the video is a better way to make the decision. So make the decision from the video. Having stuff like 'ref thinks player did violent conduct, video shows player didn't do violent conduct, but it was kind of understandable that the ref thought he did' is absolutely stupid.
-
We weren’t really bad FFS. Half an hour of the first game of the season.
-
It should get overturned but obviously it can’t because that would be admitting that the ref and the VAR were both wrong. Hideous system.
-
Even trying to keep VAR out makes VAR worse
-
Was it a red if he hadn’t dived?
-
The goal was actually really good, despite the keepers mistake. Great spot and pass by Isak and great control and finish.
-
I don’t get blaming Schar or all this talk about giving the ref no choice. The fact is it wasn’t violent conduct and the lad dived. Those are the important facts, and that’s what the officials should be able to sort out.
-
What does the referee guidance say about buying blatant diving?
-
I don’t understand why it even matters what the on-field ref has decided. Look at the video, if he’s wrong then change the decision. If the on-field refs are able to make enough correct decisions, then get rid of VAR.
-
I never comment or pay attention to referees but I think that was one of the worst performances I’ve ever seen.

The home made feel is the point, I think.
