Simpson isn't nearly as bad as some on here make him out to be. He's a defender who can defend and if his goal line clearances were goals at the other end he'd be given much more slack. Just like Ryan Taylor does, yet he’s a defender who can’t defend but can get the odd goal. Thirded, I wouldn't be sad to see Simpson upgraded but he's been an OK performer for us and part of the best back four we've had in ages.

It's remarkable how well he's slotted in after a long injury TBF to him. Having Colo alongside obviously helps, but still very impressive.

I go to this game every year, and it's always terrible. It's a tough fixture to be sure, just hoping we can nick it in the same manner as today. Also hoping to see HBA play from the start and entertain us a bit.

I strangely enjoy wins like these, especially when we're lacking Tiote/Ba/Cabaye. Nice to grind out a result at times, three points from this is very nice.

Let's face it, 6th position at this point is dreamland stuff, and Pardew deserves massive credit. All the rest is detail.

Encouraging words from Pards in the interview I thought, good to see he is being praised and recognised for what he does. I would like to see him start every game, but at least Pardew is recognising him and thinks he is progressing.

Was a dirty player who would always dish it out but wouldn't take it. Full of sneaky tricks and play acting, cheated his way to free kicks and to get opponents cautioned or sent off. Shame because he was a very good player. A despicable person who shouldn't be trusted as far as you could throw Kevin Nolan. Always quite liked the "R"s but hope he will fall flat on his face. Aye, couldn't stand the man as a player and now can't as a manager.
