I hope that was sarcasm!

There are so many smilies designed for Nicky Butt leaving: I could go on...

We're Ruining The Championship For The Neutrals

If thats a compliment, I wouldn't care to be insulted (Jesus.....) i don't think you're meant to take it this seriously, it's just a comedy opinion piece. -

I think people might have missed the tongue-in-cheek nature of that article. It's just a guy saying he's surprised and disappointed by his lack of opportunity to laugh at us... if anything it's a complement. -
Based on nothing more than blind optimism. Not at all, I'm saying that I agree our squad is too small. But it hasn't got worse in terms of its ability to win football matches. We have krul to thank for barely getting a draw against a side we beat twice last season. Ofcourse we're worse. Based on nothing more than blind pessimism! Nah, seriously, I stand by my point that other than as bodies to increase the numbers we won't miss the players that we have sold.

Pit poney, or at a push a tram.

The only good thing is that we haven't really noticed the departure of any of the players who have left. Was Michael Owen more useful to us than Nile Ranger? Nope. Was Damien Duff more effective than a random midfielder from the reserves? Nah. I agree the squad is too thin, but I think its ability to compete in football matches hasn't gone down at all because of the departures. Only Beye will be missed.

When in the North East I live about 25 minutes from SJP on a good day, but I've been more than 10 times, woo! Down south I live about 4 hours away, probably get to around 5 home games a season and about the same away.

...and are prepared to admit it.

After uni, I spent 5 months looking for a job in Newcastle before I realised I would have to start applying for everything regardless of location. In London now via spells in Maidenhead, Reading and Oxford!

Exactly, you can't have a team full of plodders with no attacking threat. Aye, Jonas hasn't scored many and a lot of his crosses are dodgy, but he commits defenders, hassles them and worries them. We need him in the team at the moment. When we're back in the Champions League we can start looking around for better players... until then we need to hold onto the gangly one.
-
He hasn't looked clinical for ages though has he, even most of the goals he scored were tap ins or scuffed connections. I think he might manage 10 goals, no more than that.

I really believe Taylor loves the club, but a footballer's career is pretty short... I'm finding it hard to hold it against any player who wants out of NUFC at the moment. Obviously losing Taylor would be a big blow and I don't want it to happen.

Injury prone and mentally deranged?

I just can't decide whether to get Ameobi, Smith or R Taylor on the back now!

Neil Warnock is exactly like the boy who cried wolf, even though he's clearly right I find myself hating him.

Every player (pretty much) is transformed when they're confident... the turmoil at the club is a major reason that I'm prepared to give Jonas some slack at the moment. The performance of almost every player went up by about 50% against Reading when they got the confidence up. Should serve us well in the coming games.

Not forgetting Shola 'Alan Shearer' Ameobi! -
Completely agree, if we were Man Utd we could criticise Jonas but for a team of our current standard he's a very very useful player. And his relationship with Enrique seems to be brilliant. Expecting to see Enrique and Jonas to both depart, but I really hope we can hold onto them somehow.

Newcastle United 3 - 0 Reading - 15/08/09 - post match reaction from page 22

Don't want to poke anyone but got to say I was one of the people annoyed by how regular the Ashley chanting was going on. My opinion is simply that during the game we should be trying to create a supportive atmosphere to help the players as much as possible ('supporting the team', I guess you could call it!). I might have been unlucky though, as I had a couple of complete mongs sat behind me, I suppose some people just go to the game to complain anyway... they were determined to criticise evey mistake to the Nth degree and hardly chirped up at all when something good happened. I see the 90 minutes of the match as a great chance to forget the off field bollocks and just enjoy supporting NUFC for a bit. -
I would honestly rather just throw in the reserves and the youngsters, give them a chance. Let's face it, on the evidence of the West Brom match we aren't going down again, so let's see what happens.
-
I wish people would stop talking about Mike Ashley making a profit - how many times does it need to be said that he has put his own money into the club, taken nothing out and will end up with a significant loss (in all likelihood)?

Far too soon to say LuaLua is a 'headless chicken' surely? A bit of stereotyping going on there? I don't think Jonas is one either TBH, his end product is dodgy but he doesn't lose the ball through not looking up that much. -

I'm really surprised the amount of key players that Reading have let go. Obviously without Coppell they must have been difficult to hold on to. Can everyone watch Shane Long and let me know if you think he runs like a robot?
