  1. "Yesterday's story about Martins underlined a general concern about the standard of sports journalism in the north east, something which I know from the emails we have received is pissing most fans right off at the moment." Fixed the quote.
  2. I think most people understand it to mean playing with commitment to that specific club because you love it, rather than just trying hard generally.
  3. Although his boss is probably more interested in whether he sells papers than if his stories are true or not.
  4. In the next 5 years, maybe. In the next 30 years, fo' sho'.
  5. Well Sam did say he expected them to both (Owen and Ameobi) to play against Celtic and when it was first done, said it was only a minor injury. Oh and yeah, I didnt notice that Alan Oliver wrote it, so it will be a pile of shite probably. Fair enough... I'm depressed about his injuries as well, I just don't blame him for them like some people seem to.
  6. From that same article: "Meanwhile, the Chronicle’s report that Oba Martins may have to be sacrificed to fund moves for a couple of defenders was described as “speculation” by United last night." Actually Alan, I think it was described as 'complete and utter fabrication'. Don't see you quoting that one
  7. How the f do we know whether he should have overcome it in 3 weeks or not? Have you been sitting in on the physio room? Also, the more and more you read the Chronicle, the more and more deluded and depressed you will become.
  8. You can't expect anyone bar those players who actually support NUFC to 'play for the shirt'. Motivation comes from a lot of different places, I would rather a player perform because of personal pride in how he does his job... that would be true regardless of club.
  9. And also, we can station spies in evey pub, cafe and restaurant in tyneside
  10. Sky Sports reporting Oba is ready to sign new contract, and some really good quotes from the man himself. www.skysports.com/football
  11. Has there ever been a post that vic agrees with?
  12. Well done to the TUs, you lads do make a real difference. I wonder if it's not better for you to be spread out all over the ground? Like mofo says, some people are embarassed to start a song, but will happily join in. Maybe a group of 25-50 in each part of the ground would be more useful in acheiving your aims?
  13. CoachHTT, my hero Well done mate, this has needed saying for a good few days now... we really need to get perspective on how much change the club has been through in the last few weeks and how much better off we are now. Like you say, if we have to go through a season of transition and a not-so-great transfer window, we'll just have to grit our teeth and remember the bigger picture.
  14. To be fair, I think there's only 1 person panicking about this... Aye, but have a look at some of the other mental threads today, just thought it was getting a bit out of hand
  15. Nobody really knows what's going on with transfers 99% of the time, whether they be th BBC, newspapers, websites, or whoever. We need to stop pressing the panic button at every bit of press speculation.
  16. People, WE DON'T NEED TO WORRY ABOUT THIS, IT ISN'T GOING TO HAPPEN.
  17. This cannot possibly be true, nobody connected to Newcastle United is this stupid, and I even include Roeder in that. To let one of our best prospects go for £3million? No chance at all.
  18. I don't want to bring my misery in to such a jolly thread. I thought about it though You are saying were deluded to think we could fix our problems in the 1st window. I don' think we can, but we could of done a much better job that whats happened so far. Citeh are embarrassing us ATM, they got a new manager AFTER ours was appointed, they got their takeover AFTER we got ours. There's really no excuse not to release funds for defenders. I see where you're coming from, but I think there will be funds for new defenders if the right players are found... I don't think we have missed out on many this window because of lack of money - maybe because we were a less attractive proposition than other clubs. Sven is a bigger draw than Sam internationally, we have to accept that. I also think City are miles further away from having a quality side than we are, although they have caught up a bit.
  19. Guys, take a look over at the bright side of life thread! Seriously, I think you are deluding yourselves if you expect a new manager, owner and board to come in and fix all our problems within the first transfer window. Let Mort complete the review of the club, wait until the window is closed, then we can justify getting worked up about lack of progress. They way I see it, we are moving forward already and both Allardyce and Mort seem to know what is required to put things right. They just haven't found the right defenders, that's all.
  20. Fair enough to a certain extent, but I think running a story on front page, back page and website that is clearly completely made up (and already contradicted by the club) is a bit much... and just the latest in a long line of inaccuracies, fabrications and speculation from Oliver. The guy's ratio of correct stories must be about 1:100, that's bad even for a sports journo.
