You might be right. I just though the intention was always to give him a short contract and renew/not in Jan. I'm probably giving Ashley too much credit!

I agree, also for the simple fact that this is a very rare chance to get a player of top quality. Although I've agreed with our sensible buying policy recently, I think this is a chance to make an exception and really reap the rewards. He's potentially a £10m-£20m player if he fulfils his potential.

The recent Chelsea cup game was class... I know it wasn't significant but we turned up expecting a beating and the outcome was unbelievable with the team we put out.

Yeah, Hughes was one the stupidest sales we made.

Superb assist for Nolan as well, the movement from the corner was great and the header was composed. tbh judging by the way he wheeled off in celeb I think he was trying to score (and momentarily thought he did score) but the movement was top class alright Oh yeah, I'm not suggesting he specifically headed it directly onto Nolan's head... but he did really well to direct it back across the goal. Also, I never get tired of watching his second goal!

Don't know to be honest, it's always difficult to tell what he's thinking. I'd settle for another transfer window like the last couple though.

I didn't think there was an offer on the table though, I thought the whole thing was on ice until January?

He is unique, that's for sure.

The only error by an official is the assistant not spotting the handball. And if he didn't see it he couldn't give it. Either that or he assumed the referee would give it himself, which he also shouldn't do. Clattenburg did everything right IMO, or at least not wrong. You could argue that (if he did award advantage) Gomes was unlikely to gain any, but that's more a matter of opinion.

Fixed. I was thinking that myself. I also agree that people like Xavi and Iniesta are arguably in the same bracket.

I really hope he does decide never to speak to the media again... the man's a crime against humanity.

It's a bit pointless to defend Rafa by saying he couldn't afford players as expensive as Man Utd and Chelsea... that's basically just admitting that a manager's ability has nothing to do with success. Yes, he had to buy at a lower level in the latter days... but you would still have hope Liverpool could attract better players than they seem to have done. I do agree quite a bit of Liverpool's downfall has been down to the ownership situation though.

Do we need better questions than "why are you so amazing"? We could ask him if he likes his smiley.

They have also made a lie of the horrible cliche that "Newcastle fans expect everything" and "they're only happy playing like Barcelona". All we ask is for a bit of spirit for the badge and a decently-attacking approach to most games.

For me it's also the turnaround that makes it special. Quite a number of these players were involved in our darkest period but they've worked hard and redeemed themselves... not fucked off when the going got tough. Just shows that we often judge players and their ability too quickly, and vastly underestimate the effect of psychology, motivation and team spirit. We need to protect that as we look to improve the squad too.

Class news if he's talking to the lads regularly. This group of lads eh... brilliant.

FWIW, I think his ponytail is probably the best haircut he's had since he came into the first team.
