In a way it worked out perfectly for him, mainly because of his own patience and professionalism obviously. He’s now going down as a trophy winner and legend for NUFC and might be talked about as the best defender we ever had. Who knows what would’ve happened if he’d left to fight for a place at a more successful club.

Barnes is someone who efficiently generates shots and goals. He's the opposite of a luxury player.

I know what you mean but I think our mentality is better than that now. We won't lose just because we're due a loss. We may lose because they outplay us, but I wouldn't put the percentage chance of that very high. It's a tough game but we'll be well in it.

I can't make my mind up on him, he looks elegant but does make a fair amount of mistakes.

IIRC I never really felt the need to doubt him due to the simple logic of the situation. He was always going to be given the season at least, and therefore he was always going to turn it around. With a worse ownership I would've been worried they would pull the trigger on him early, but I knew the club wouldn't do that.
