That would be the reason, if he wanted to go. But I think the reality is that second choice is about his level in the PL.

As much as I love ASM it’s not comparable to selling Cole. That would be like selling Bruno or Isak.

Barnes isn't really predictable, he's two-footed and can score goals from both sides. He's more of a wide forward where ASM is a winger. Maybe that's what we are looking for. Very few players in the PL focus primarily on beating people in 1-v-1 situations. Even if they do it's more a quick drop of the shoulder to get a pass or shot away.

I think that's generally a worry no matter what the ASM fee is. If KSA decide to really go for it they could have the richest league in the world in a few years. Which will obviously lead to lots of PL players going there. Not that it necessarily matters since we can just bring in replacements from Europe, but the PL could end up second.

Is there any mechanism to scrutinise transfer fees for players you sell? Or you just mean for PR reasons?

Not saying he’s quite Enzo Fernandez right now, but Enzo cost double. And probably triple the wages.

I think he could play as a fairly limited LB in a non-ambitious team. Probably lower Championship. He can control the ball and pass it, just looks completely unable to do anything inventive.

If he’s over his delusion about starting in the PL I would be happy to keep him as backup.
