I think he has come across really well so far. Dignified and confident and a joke here or there. Perfect as a figurehead for the club - time will tell on the football side. A real contrast to Kinnear. No doubt the latter would have been up for another disciplinary charge over last Saturday's non-goal.

Shearer has been here a few days. No-one knows who the manager is going to be next season. The DOF as left. We don't know what division we will be in next season. And all of a sudden we are supposed to be bidding for and registering interest in players all over the place. I don't think so.

George Caulkin on the Times website Where's this coverage from?

The media spent 2 days hyping up the atmosphere and as a result I think some people just turned up for the "experience". It was always going to be an anti-climax. Stoke was better because it was spontaneous and happened within a few hours of the announcement.

There is so much in this area outside of the football club that owes a lot to Keegan. He made things happen. For example, Durham CCC will tell you that his support at the beginning was a major influence in attracting investors. The regeneration of the city and the rise of the club went hand in hand as well. As another old'un, KK will always be my idol and I hate the way he is generally portrayed today. I think it is unfair and I respect him for sticking to his principles. BTW, I was never aware that Robson was a Newcastle fan until he became our manager and as others have said, he would never have come near this club had it not been for its transformation under Keegan.

NUFC.com often put up a list of tracks played by the DJ in their match report.

Jonas can't cross at all. Robert and Solano were expert crossers. very true, Robson wouldn't have had Jonas anywhere near Have you read SBR aritcle? He makes it clear that Duff & Steven Taylor would be the only players close to getting into his side. What's your point? ERRRRRRR. Asking if you have read the article? As Bobby makes it clear which players would get in his squad. Taylor was in his squad before he was sacked.

For all Ashley's complaints about the club's finances, he has hardly helped himself with all these pay offs.

Speed is employed at Sheffield Utd at the moment so no point in getting him in for 8 games. If Shearer is here next season, that would be the time to go for him.
-
So does Philippe Albert.

Weren't Stoke poor in the last home game against Boro and lucky to win. Now there is a gap opening maybe they will be a bit more relaxed. Clutching at straws?
-
I reckon he is as Shearer is his greatest supporter.

Was asked by Setanta once and declined politely.

Bur we don't really know what Wise did and that's the problem. Originally it was supposed to be to recruit players for the Academy but then it seemed that he was involved in recruiting for the first team. Did he scout the players or were they recommended to him? No-one knows. Yes players have been coming in to the Academy but it will be a few years before we know whether they will make the grade.

Shearer on Five Live now

I guess that is why he has bought Ian Dowie in with him as he has experience of fighting relegation with Palace.

We have enough unemployment during the best of times but during the biggest recession since WW2?, Its obvious why people have the time tbh. Also with the ground in the city centre, there are enough people passing by all day.

I think it's more of an advantage he's got an executive box at St James' so he'll know just what to expect from this shower of s****. Agree with this. Whilst the alleged "experts" suggest it would have been better to bring in an experienced manager, they would already have had a perceived (and probably wrong) idea of the club and what the problems are which are likely to have been very different to the views held up here. I think the fact that Shearer will have seen all of the games either from his box or the TV studio and will have all the inside information from Harper, Owen and Butt and that he knows the club and supporters, means that he will at least have a clear idea of what is needed. Whether he can achieve that in 8 games is another matter. Looking forward to seeing who will be in the team on Saturday.

Can't stop laughing - this club - just mental! Have to hand it to Shearer though - prepared to come in at the 11th hour to try and save the club.

The only thing I can in the T&C are as follows: 11. Season Ticket Price Freeze 11.1 Acceptance of the price freeze offer is an irrevocable commitment by the customer for the next three seasons and the customer and the customer may not terminate the agreement. 11.2 A payment schedule will be sent for the 2009/2010 and 2010/2011 seasons to those customers that opt for the payment plan option. Season tickets for the 2009/10 and 2010/11 seasons will be paid for by direct debit in 10 monthly instalments each. Should any payments be missed then the agreement may be terminated by the Company and admittance to the Ground may be denied. No payments will be refunded in any circumstances. You could get in touch with the NUSC as I think they have been investigating the legal side of this and they can probably advise you whether you are entitled to a refund.

The guy who wrote it supposedly has good connections and people have been saying they have heard such rumours around town all week. Funny how just a few months ago when they were trying to sell the club, it was being promoted has being financially sound. I just don't believe anything anymore. If Llambias and co. have learned their lesson about communication as they said they had, then they will come out and deny it. But they probably won't.

Good question, who knows? a decision was made to open a gate letting in a large body of fans, if that decision was made before either radio/face contact with officers/stewards outside the ground/inside the stand then of course it will have an impact on the confusion. The decision was made to open the gate, this decision seems to of been made before adequate instructions had been passed to those on foot. You have to ask why they were rushed, and this seems to be where opinions on here is divided. My belief is simple, they didn't want to delay kick off. (maybe ITV are to blame). I don't think they really delayed kick-offs back then. I am sure that was something that was recommended after Hillsborough. And the game was not broadcast live - the live coverage came about because it became a news item and so Grandstand switched to it.

A lot of the normal staff normally get made redundant when a club is relegated. Wasn't a large part of the wage bill non-playing staff?

Just goes to show that unless you watch a club regularly, how uninformed you can be - which is why most of the "experts" in the media haven't got a clue.
