  1. Charnley has been quoted as saying that they would never have sacked him even though they knew he was struggling.
  2. Hope that means de Boer is going to Everton.
  3. Sure I read that Benitez would be taking McClaren's place at the end of the season if we'd stayed up? Yes Rafa said that himself.
  4. http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/relegated-newcastle-gone-burton--7948036 "This relegation, confirmed in the most painful of ways by bitter rivals Sunderland beating Everton to secure their top-flight status, is the culmination of years of rot and poor decisions. Under Ashley, Newcastle have finished 12th, 18th, first in the Championship, 12th, fifth, 16th, 10th, 15th and are now confirmed as bottom-three material again. In the six years before he took over, they had three top-five finishes and also a seventh place. In 18 attempts at the domestic cups during the Ashley era, they’ve gone beyond the fourth round of either one just once. Their one season of joy, that fifth place under Alan Pardew, was the exception. The rule was a lack of ambition, under-investment, bad buys, an unbalanced squad and selling the club to players as a stepping stone rather than somewhere to make their dreams reality. Since Pardew quit for Crystal Palace at the end of December 2014, Newcastle have won just 12 games out of 60 — a run including 34 defeats."

Their arrogance and complacency has been incredible. All comes from the man at the top of course as the club has been shaped by his personality. Doubt that, considering this was their frame of mind in late February (fan forum meeting minutes): Worked out well
  6. i saw a Bournemouth article today about which players they should go for from the relegated clubs and Lascelles and Townsend were the two from Newcastle. That's where we are now. Bournemouth considering if any of our players are good enough for them.

    Lee Charnley

The club operates with a skeleton staff as it. Goodness knows how it will function next season.
  8. Didn't Villa reject Rafa based on fan opinion? Was that not McClaren? Nah it was McLiesh http://m.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/13793274 I am sure one of the Liverpool fans on here said that when Benitez was linked with Villa, their fans were not happy. It may have been nothing more than speculation in the media at the time (similar to our reaction with the current links in the media to Bruce).
  9. A lot of Everton fans seem hostile to the idea and although that won't put Benitez off, let's hope it makes their Board look elsewhere. Frank de Boer is another name touted for them but I guess could be seen as a risk compared to Rafa.
  10. Already happened - heard it on the radio at the weekend.
  11. How come it is always the fans fault when we get relegated? The people running the club are the ones to blame - they have had so many opportunities presented to them to improve the club and every time they choose the wrong option - always opting to improve the balance sheet in the short-term rather than looking further ahead.
  12. It is not so common in this country but in Italy for example, managers seem to move to rival clubs quite regularly.
  13. But he will be able to go home every night to his family and I would imagine that would be quite appealing. Apparently, he leaves home at 4am in the morning on those days he is not staying in a hotel.
  14. Well we will about that in the next few days. I would say he has failed at Hull with that squad.
  15. They said on Radio Newcastle that the club are desperate for Rafa to stay but they are really worried about Everton whose interest is genuine and that Rafa is not adverse to going there.
  16. And appointing Bruce will just show how stupid the board are. As if he will ever be accepted here and he is neither a manager to rebuild a club, develop the kids or steadily improve a club. Like Pardew, he normally hits a wall after about 18 months and then it is downhill from then on. Oh and he doesn't know how to win a derby game either. But they probably think he is a Geordie so those insular Newcastle fans will be fine with it.
  17. This is the typical NUFC way. Honestly, if this happens maybe more people will open their eyes to the clowns in charge. And it would be such a typically NUFC shortsighted view - short-term profit over long-term gain. Ticket sales will make a significant contribution to his wages if he stays. And those ticket sales are unlikely to happen with another manager.

    Steve McClaren

I remember reading somewhere when he was appointed that McClaren was an OK manager to keep things ticking overr but that he was not able to improve teams. Therefore had we finished the previous season comfortably mid-table, he would probably have coped but there was no way he would be able to improve a a struggling team and especially one that that has just escaped relegation. I love to know what kind of research goes into searching for a new manager because they just don't get what kind of manager NUFC needs.
  19. That's how I feel - if only to stop the "Allardyce has never been relegated" line continuing.
  20. Has there ever been this kind of attention on another club's move to a new stadium. It all seems rather excessive and who cares other than West Ham fans.
  21. They've been doing that for a while. That'll happen when you get a (basically) free stadium with all the trimmings. Rather than discreetly getting on with it, they are constantly out there indirectly reminding everyone of the helping hand they have been given.
  22. Liverpool fans seem to like us now - at least until next Sunday when Rafa leaves.
  23. I'm not really that bothered about getting out of that division, it will only be a short term fix before someone like Pearson or Sherwood is exposed once we hit the top level. With Rafa here I know the club will be in good hands for the next few years and that's all I'm interested in. That's how I see it too. If Rafa stays, the club will get the root and branch reform it needs. Anybody else will only be a short term fix and the improvements that need to be made at all levels of the club will be postponed until at least the next manager comes along.
  24. You're right I heard a journalist say just that yesterday on the radio. He actually said that relegation was the fans fault because we got Pardew the sack* and so we got what we deserved as we would not be in this position if he was still here. I find it incredible that they completely ignore his last 3 seasons with us and cannot see that he started the process. * It seems to be accepted without question now that he was sacked because of the fans. How can they expect us to believe a word they say when they cannot get the basic facts right.
  25. When Brentford were looking for a manager, they were linked with one or two names which seemed incredible - I think Paco Jemez might have been one - someone like that who no-one believed would manage in the Championship. It is not inconceivable that we could attract a decent manager in the Championship - after all, no-one believed Benitez would become our manager. The problem is the people who are making the decision and the arrogance that has been a trademark of Ashley's regime. They will probably believe it will be easy for us to come back up with our players and therefore, the manager is not that important.
