The true measure of a club is in how many fans they take to SJP, is it? You're obsessed, man, obsessed.

All entirely by the by, mate, considering I haven't at any point in this thread actually commented on the "bigness" of clubs, but you're entirely welcome to your opinions.

But he didn't reject Newcastle for Villa though, did he? As I said, he is widely considered to have done so, although the absolute truth is not known

Dear God alive. NO, I do *not* believe a manager turning down city for villa makes villa a bigger club, or vice versa. In fact, I am pointing out precisely the opposite. It was Stevie who implied that a manager opting for one job rather than the other makes the club he opted for the bigger club. My "irony" point was to show that this argument is rubbish, and to point out the irony in what Stevie was saying, re MON / Villa / Newcastle. If you're going to put words into my mouth to fit your own argument though, go ahead

It's basically an admittance we're a much bigger club, so if he had the opportunity to become our manager, why would he go to a smaller club. PFFFT some people. Again, you've got a marvellous talent for reading things that aren't there. At which point does he say Newcastle are a bigger club than Villa? He bigs you up, and correctly in my opinion, there's nothing he says there I wouldn't agree with. He says you're a big club, and he hopes our - and I am quoting here - "Ambition and willingness to invest" - match what yours have been over recent years. It is widely considered that he did have the opportunity to take the Toon job and didn't take it. I'm not saying this DOES mean anything about whether one club is bigger than the other, it doesn't. It was in fact YOU who implied this with your "rejecting Citeh for villa, AS IF!!!" comment earlier. Do you really, geniunely not understand this?

I wasn't referring to the unfinished business thing - I agree entirely on that part - I was referring to the bit after re the top four or Newcastle part. Well what's to disagree with?? Fucking hell. You think he would turn Man City down and go somewhere like Villa? I seriously doubt it. Whereas on the other hand on more than one occasion he's indirectly registered an interest in the toon job. What's your problem exactly? This is one of the most informed, entertaining and honest sites around for football chat, but you always seem one step away from an enormous argument and just look to provoke it. Turn Man City down and go somewhere like Villa? There's an enormous irony in that that I'd trust even you to work out. sorry, but I think Man City are a bigger fanbase club with better supporters than Villa too. Absolutely no question. I'll spell out the point you've managed to miss. Turn down Man City to go to Villa, he questioned. Well, forgetting Citeh, who is our current manager widely considered to have turned down? I haven't missed it at all. I said that I agree with the point Stevie appears to be making, which is that Man City have a bigger and better fanbase than Villa and are the bigger potential club. The fact that you are at the moment better off than city and they are in limbo and possibly about to undergo a change of owners, doesn't change that one iota Actually, you have entirely missed the point i was making, and focused on some other point of your choice which I didn't even mention. I never even mentioned the relative merits of Citeh and Villa. Stevie suggested that a manager would not turn down Citeh to go to Villa, and that this in itself is somehow proof that City are a bigger club than Villa (which, incidentally, by any measure other than recent attendances, they are not). I pointed out the irony that he (and subsequently you) had entirely missed the fact that MON turned down Newcastle and took the Villa job. If Stevie's original assertion is in any way valid, then he is effectively saying Villa are a bigger club than Newcastle. Can i make it any clearer than that?
  7. I agree with this, I frequently trawl similar sections on the sites of other clubs in the run up to us playing them, and I know lots of people who do the same. Quite a few sites have a similar feature.

    Players in public

    8) Tiger Tiger is an awful bar tho. Tiger Tiger is to drinking what Cafe Rouge is to French cuisine.
  11. I used to watch a lot of Serie A and these days it is a bit of a mess. Average players where you never used to get average players. Outside the top 4 and the bottom 3, the Prem is really much of a muchness. You could take any two teams and swap their positions and nobody would bat an eyelid.
  12. I really believe the Premiership is nowt like the best league in the world. Best *marketed* league in the world, yes. Best in terms of quality of football? No.

I'm doing that flicking my throat with my finger gesture as I type this. Why bother? No one can see you. If those comments from Capello are genuine, look at the date, Spurs didn't have a manager, he didn't have a job and his last comment acknowledges Spurs are nothing but could be big. He basically says he would like to work with a club with ambition in England, that could be anyone really. Chi se ne frega? (Who gives a fuck?). Ambition means half the premiership these days, I quite agree. It could actually mean West Ham.

Well what's to disagree with?? f****** hell. You think he would turn Man City down and go somewhere like Villa? I seriously doubt it. Whereas on the other hand on more than one occasion he's indirectly registered an interest in the toon job. Says a newspaper article. Says Freddie Shepherd's mouth piece. Pipe down good lad. Could it be Shepherd actually telling Oliver to write that crap with the intent of making the Newcastle manager position look more glamorous then it is?? ** ruffles kingdawson's hair, pats him on the head and says off you trot. I guess your right though. All the great managers in world football harbour dreams of one day managing one of the top 4 clubs in the English league...............................................................................................and Newcastle Difficult to argue with. Some like Capello and Hiddink have shown no MASSIVE inclination though to manage in England though. Well Capello did say that Spurs are the club in the English league that interests him the most. It is "vorrei lavorare", mate, no need for the "a". And "squadra" not "squadura", and moltissimo isn't used that way. They'd also be more likely to say "Il Manchester" rather than "l'United", it should also be "l'Arsenal". I'll let the other errors slip. If you're going to act clever, do it properly, like.

    Trivia Question

West Brom. 551ft above sea level IIUGC Birmingham is the highest above sea level of all the major British cities by some distance, stands to reason it would be one of the three grounds in the city. I always used to think it was Oldham, but this was based on the fact that Boundary Park is without doubt a. the coldest ground and b. the windiest ground in England.

And that is based on what? An opinion. Got a problem with that? I'd say if all the sides in the top flight maximised their potential Manchester City would be in the top 6 with us, and surely Houllier can see that? So if he's going to through third parties turn his back on an opportunity there I certainly couldn't see him going elsewhere. No, I was wondering whether it was based on opinion or fact. No need to be quite so defensive, mate.

  23. My view is that with so many extremely wealthy people taking over Prem clubs, and with the absurd figures raised from the Sky contract, increasingly it will not be about who you can afford to buy, but who you can attract to the club in terms of who the manager is, what the set up is like throughout the club, how geared you are for success etc etc (as well as, obviously, how successful you currently are). I'm using "you" in general terms here, btw, not Newcastle in particular.

Bwahahaha, I can't believe someone outside City noticed that. He's become somewhat infamous for his somewhat limited vocabulary - The only words he knows are "This football club", "cute", "C.V." and "you know". I would have thought you would have to listen to everything he says to pick up on it, but there you go Listen out for Steven Gerrard, he honestly seems to have caught a very bad dose of it very, very quickly. It annoys me so much it has now got to the point where I can't watch football interviews without cringeing just in case they say it.

I'm glad Pearce has gone but not for football reasons. He's one of those people who, in interviews, ALWAYS says "the football club" rather than just "the club" (like we'd suspect they might be talking about bingo clubs or something) in an attempt to look in some way more authoritative than they actually are. Roeder used to do that, too. And i saw an interview with Steve Gerrard last night where he did it about 7 times in two minutes. Pearce was a particularly persistent offender. Good riddance.
