I'm sure the deal for Remy would have been a permanent deal if he didn't have this rape accusation hanging over him. All the people saying we should have signed him on a permanent deal will go very quiet if Remy is found guilty. If Remy is found innocent I'm sure the same people will be very vocal that we should have signed him on a permanent deal. Decisions are easy with the benefit of hindsight.

Remy said last week that he is going to wait until Summer before making any decisions on his long term future. If France qualify for the World Cup any potential buyers will probably be made wait until after that to buy Remy. I blame Remy and Harry Redknapp for Remy not already being a permanent NUFC player.

Ben Arfa is our best player on paper. Sometimes he's great (Fulham, Aston Villa) and sometimes he isn't (Hull, etc). He isn't consistent. At the moment I'd say our best player is Remy.

I said I wouldn't have brought Ben Arfa on. I can understand the logic (however flawed) of bringing Obertan on at the time he came on. That doesn't mean that is what I'd have done if I was the manager. I never said I thought Obertan was better option than Ben Arfa. Ben Arfa could have danced through the Chelsea defence and scored. He could just as easily taken on 3 Chelsea defenders and lost the ball with the result being a Chelsea attack on our goal. We won the game and substitution worked out in our favour. People over hype Ben Arfa up. He isn't Messi or Ronaldo. I remember when most people thought he was going to rip Hull to shreds. We all know he didn't. All I'm saying is have some perspective about him. He isn't perfect and if he doesn't have a good game it isn't always someone else's fault. I'm sure no one would complain if Ben Arfa became more consistent, worked harder defending and actually passed to a team mate when it's probably the best option.

Ben Arfa is liable to lose the ball more than Obertan?, give over. As far as out ball, clearly that was Pardew's thinking but it was quite flawed, as Ben Arfa's a far better out ball than Obertan. Every time he got it in that kind of situation he either got tackled straight away, fell over it or passed it to the opposition. Chelsea hardly had to do much chasing like.. so he was entirely useless as an out ball. Some decent interplay with Anita for the second goal but other than that he was terrible. I'd bet my house that if Ben Arfa had gotten the ball on the break like he did on more than one occasion he'd have made Chelsea do much more chasing and would have given if away less as well. Obertan wasn't brought on to hold the ball up. He was brought on to chase the out ball. He can definitely run faster than Ben Arfa. He was involved in the 2nd goal so the substitution worked. No point betting your house on what might have happened if Ben Arfa had come on. He didn't so we'll never know.

In my opinion he has been awful recently. I've already explained that I think Pardew moved Ben Arfa up front to keep him in the team. He wasn't doing his defensive duties on the right wing so he was moved where he didn't have to do as much defensive work. Some people had been clamouring to see Ben Arfa up front. It didn't work. He needs to be right wing and he needs to pass when it's a better option than running at 3 defenders. He also needs to do his defensive duties. I can understand people defending Ben Arfa but they should also admit when he hasn't played well. This thread is about Ben Arfa. Other players have also had bad games but that's to discuss in their threads.
-
That would be all well and good if the bloke wasn't liable to fall over when this happens. Chelsea still chased after him. They didn't know Obertan was going to fall over. I'm sure no one did including Obertan.

I wouldn't have subbed Ben Arfa on against Chelsea at the time Obertan went on. Ben Arfa is as liable to lose the ball as he is to do something amazing with it. Obertan is shit but as with all pacey players, the opposition have to bare them in mind just in case they do get in behind. At that point in the game Obertan was brought on as a get out ball. Punt it out and he will chase after it. I like Hatem Ben Arfa a lot but he has been awful recently. He certainly hasn't been a 6/10. He was played out of position up front but that was probably because he wasn't doing the defensive work when he was on the right wing. I think Pardew wants him in the team (hence why he played him as a false number 9) but he wants him to give 100% going backwards as well as forwards (as other wingers do at other teams). If he isn't going to do the defensive work the right back behind him can't go forward. Ben Arfa needs to learn when to pass. I can't believe Pardew tells him to try to beat the whole opposition team on his own. Also, the rest of the team need to offer movement so Ben Arfa has options to pass to.

If it is a racist symbol I bet the idiot who came up with it isn't happy with the multi cultural NUFC squad!

I'm sure Marveaux would have been on the bench for the last few games but as the article says he has been injured. I don't know why his injury hasn't been mentioned before but I don't think I've seen him in the training pictures for the last few weeks. For me Marveaux should play in the middle behind the striker/s. Unfortunately for Marveaux, NUFC don't play a formation that suits him. Cabaye sits quite deep for a play maker. I can't see Marveaux holding that same position. I don't rate Marveaux on the wings. He takes a decent corner though. I doubt we'll get much money if we sell Marveaux. I don't think he would be difficult to replace either.

http://www.scotsman.com/sport/football/english/gouffran-epitomises-pardew-s-newcastle-masterplan-1-3172145 Some words for Ben Arfa there. Before anyone complains, if the players at the top teams can do the defensive work so can Ben Arfa.

http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/alan-pardew-dont-want-see-6245503 "Alan Pardew: I don't want to see Sunderland relegated" Is that why you keep losing to them Alan? I'm sick of him saying stuff like this before a game. Why he feels the need to say nice things about our opposition I'll never know. He said the same shit last time.
-
Other teams can have one or two players who don't have a good game. We seem to have the majority of the team having bad games all at the same time. We have suffered some truly awful defeats under Pardew. We've been hammered a few times too. When we win we rarely beat the opposition by more than one goal. I have to believe that another manager could do better with the team we have. It would be nice to have the team play for 90 minutes. We're lucky if we manage more than one half of decent play. I said to someone on Friday that it will be a disgrace if we don't beat Sunderland. It is a disgrace. In 8 games they'd lost 7 and drawn one. Along come NUFC to roll over and hand them a win. It's the fault of the players and staff but as Pardew is the manager he has to carry the can.
-
My opinion is that he has played in cup games against lower league opposition and he's still had little impact. He never really seems to take his chances. When he has played a game he has never put in such a performance that he can't be dropped for the next game. I'd love him to be good but I just don't see it.
-
Like most of the team Ben Arfa was shite today. He hasn't played well since the Aston Villa game. Some people seem quick to crown players as 'class' but to me a class player is one who consistently delivers good performances. People will blame Pardew (who deserves plenty of blame) for the failings of our players but these players deserve blame too. Ben Arfa is a right winger. If he wants to play on the right he will have to make sure he does his defensive duties.
-
That's "Damning with faint praise". Marveaux having the most assists for us last season (in a God awful season) shows how poor the return is from our so called "creative players". When has Marveaux ever grabbed a game by the scruff of the neck and gone and got us a win? "A very good impact". You must have your sights set very low. I don't want Marveaux to be a tidy player. I want him (and all the other creative players) to set up chances, score goals and put 100% effort in. His usual contribution is to flit in and out of games, occasionally doing a good pass and occasionally being invisible.
-
You'd think Marveaux not getting a game was a disgrace the way some people go on. He has barely had any impact during his time at NUFC.
-
I'd love to know why anyone would think Marveaux would have an impact on any game. Please list me examples where Marveaux has been on the pitch and made a positive impact. I can give plenty of examples of when he has been invisible.
