I laughed when they asked the studio audience if it was a penalty and quite a few hands went up to say it was. No mention that a lot of those hands belonged to people wearing Man City and Sunderland shirts!

Nicky Butt said Shola had only been training for a couple of day in the after game interview so I assume Shola still has injury problems. Butt who was Setanta Man of the Match said it should have gone to Shola.

Just out of interest, what caption did Getty Images give this picture?

A long term problem for Newcastle that never seems to get sorted. You can add Throw Ins and Free Kicks to Corners as an area NUFC are poor at and have been for a long time.

Where's he going to go though? I can't see any team wanting to pay him what we do a week. He's also recently shown he still gets the odd injury. Apart from Man City I can't see any other options (and who knows if they'd want him). He doesn't want to go abroad again. I can't see any of the 'big 4' wanting him. Man Utd will be getting Owen for free. That's whats most probably going to happen, unfortunately. I still can't see it. They have Rooney, Tevez (pending £30m purchase) and Berbatov (recent £30m purchase). Tevez isn't getting a game at the moment so I can't see Owen going there and getting one. Man U don't always play with an out and out striker. Rooney is on the wing some times which isn't something I could see Owen doing. I can't see Owen wanting to be a bit part player.

I honestly thought after beating us they'd realise how shit other teams can be and kick on from there. The only silver lining to them knocking us out the cup is that it will probably extend their terrible run if Liverpool destroy them. I liked the recent newspaper story that said "at least Newcastle's players look like they care which is more than can be said for Tottenham's".
-
Yes but Benitez was said not to be that enthusiastic at the time to sign Owen. Liverpool currently have Torres, Keane, Kuyt and Babel (have I missed anyone?) as first team strikers. Owen won't want to be a bit part player. Who would he get ahead of? Babel probably but Kuyt tends to play out of position a lot. In a way I can see Capello's point about strikers who 'only' score goals not being enough. A lot of strikers these days are multi-skilled and do work for the team. Owen is a more old fashioned striker. The big 4 have what they need regarding strikers. I can't see any of them wanting to pay for the expensive luxury that Owen would be to them.

I mean do they really think Gutierrez would be playing if we hadn't had his registration accepted already?.. They just come off as gold digging chancers. Exactly. Who cares what a Spanish judge decides? Their ruling is meaningless. It's FIFA who sanctioned the transfer. I suggest Mallorca try getting 'their' money from FIFA.

My favourite line of commentary was about Chelsea and the players they had out. It went something like "Chelsea are like a man who has his Ferrari in for a service so he just drives his Alfa Romeo instead. It's smooth and reliable". Alfa Romeo are famous for not being reliable. A better analogy for Chelsea would be swapping a Ferrari for an Aston Martin or Lamborghini with their squad.

That is media spin and selective quoting of the Keith Harris interview. It doesn't say Keegan will be back and it doesn't say he won't be. Why should whoever is trying to buy the club mention who they want as manager? Newcastle and Keegan are totally separate. It's not as if Ashley could guarantee Keegan would return. I'd be worried about a buyer who only wanted NUFC if they could get Keegan back. Spot on. Well lets bookmark this and see what happens ,probably be a load of horse shit until this quote is verified .Imho i think we should start from scratch and not get lost in sentimentality . http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11678_4339603,00.html

Better than Shola will do - and is easily achievable. Ps Obafemi Martins, please be fit for Monday I heard he`s back in training but any news on a return date for him? I`m sure sometime in November was mentioned? On ICNewcastle last week Martins said he may play against Sunderland. At worst it was suggested he'd be on the bench for that game.

No pressure Xisco but can you suddenly turn out to be a world beater today please?

At 3 - 1 versus Kazakhstan I gave up watching as it was very boring. England couldn't string three passes together and they played like a group of strangers. It was like watching Newcastle at their worst. I see it as a small mercy that I don't have Setanta so won't be able to watch this game.

Is going to 'Sea' part of the rehabilitation program for Pattison's drink problem I wonder? Maybe he was drinking soft drinks?

You can bet that some England supporters will be dressed up as Borat or will be wearing mankinis.

That's ridiculous. I don't think the credit crunch will stop a takeover, but to think that any serious bidders have no financial worries is incredibly wrong. First of all, those hit worst by the meltdown are those that had the highest percentage of assets in the market-i.e. the rich. On top of that, the wealthy are working on more than one project at a time, they will have to prioritize what to use their limited credit for now, and Newcastle might not be their top priority. Maybe a real estate deal in Dubai is, who knows. Beyond that, people don't just have 300 million pounds lying around in a bank generally. And even if they do, no one with that much money is stupid enough to just take that much out of a bank to buy something like a major football club. Even the billionaires will borrow to some extent to pay for the club. This credit crisis probably won't stop a takeover because there are many bidders in the process, most of whom will weather this pretty well. But it will likely delay the process-bidders will wait to see if they can survive this before they commit, and it will likely cause at least one or two bidders to drop out. The meltdown has already caused Ashley to lower his price, and I fully expect it to have further effects on the takeover process. The chances of a consortium raising cash to buy Newcastle by borrowing are zero. Banks aren't lending to each other never mind to people wanting to buy a football club. Even if there is a multi-billionaire with the cash to buy NUFC can they actually get at their cash? We'll be lucky if Ashley can sell the club to anyone the way the financial system is melting down at the moment.

I initially thought the NUSC was a good idea but I don't agree with what they have been saying in their recent press releases. Mike Ashley is looking for a buyer so why continue with the militant attitude to get rid of him? He's leaving when he can. If in the worst case scenario, Mike Ashley is still the owner in the new year we need him to improve the squad to keep us in the Premiership. All this crap about letters to sponsors and the like. Not in my name!

The jury is still out on Capello. He's had one good game (or should that be Wallcot has?). Owen not getting picked is good news for Newcastle in the short term but possibly bad news in the long term. If Owen leaves us at the end of the season I can't see Man U, Arsenal or Chelsea wanting him. Liverpool is possible but Benitez didn't want him last time. Owen won't go to Tottenham who won't pay his wages and are in the shit at the moment. Man City could pay the wages and I suppose Aston Villa may be an attractive option. Hopefully we'll pick up and we'll get new owners who are happy to splash the cash.

This is exactly why I hate the media. They can say whatever they like about anyone but when that person gets upset they are told to lighten up and not take things so seriously. The press can dish it out but they certainly can't take it.

To be fair, that's simply not how it works. They probably don't see the headlines until they see the paper. Pretty much. They submit their copy, and immediately move on to the next story. The editor is entitled to do what he wants with it. So their Editors are twats (no surprise there). The journalists stories are excrement 99.9% of the time (Just see the "The Media: 'We Hate Newcastle United' thread"). The headline usually just tops them off.
